Responsibilities
The Diagnostic Imaging Physicist utilizes the scientific method to provide both physics and technical support. This specific position will focus solely on MRI. They evaluate exam protocols, image post-processing, and diagnostic imaging equipment to ensure optimal performance. The Diagnostic Imaging Physicist also assists with all aspects of clinical research and development in medical imaging and works to optimize diagnostic images while maintaining patient safety and promoting best practices. The Diagnostic Imaging Physicist acts as a resource and provides technical support for MRI, including 7T, low-field, MRA, MRS and MRE. Knowledge related to pulse sequence programming or RF simulations is desirable. Recent graduates from a Medical Physics Residency satisfy the 2-year experience requirement. Candidates actively pursuing ABR or ABMP MR Imaging Physics certification are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications
Master's degree in Medical Physics or a related field such as physics, chemistry, computer science or engineering required. Two years experience in a clinical position under the supervision of a qualified medical physicist in a department of Radiology required. Must be knowledgeable of computer processes and have an understanding of the programming involved. Must have strong skills in the physics of medical imaging and in problem solving. Working knowledge of radiation measurements, diagnostic test equipment and procedures, as well as routine imaging protocol assessment. Must have a good understanding of the clinical manifestations of diagnostic imaging equipment problems and be able to analyze data and draw appropriate conclusions. Expected to work independently and prioritize work. Must have superior interpersonal skills for interaction with all levels of staff and paramedical personnel and demonstrated effective critical thinking skills.Successful completion of Part I of American Board of Radiology (ABR), American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP), or equivalent certification required. Certification completion (successfully passing all three parts of the examination) required within the first three years of hire. Board certification in Diagnostic Medical Physics by the ABR and/or ABMP preferred. A qualified diagnostic imaging physicist means an individual who is certified and maintains certification by the ABR and/or ABMP in Diagnostic Medical Physics.
