Title and Summary

Senior Specialist, Legal Services (Regulatory & Compliance)

The GBSC (Global Business Services Center) is the shared services organization for Mastercard and is partnering with the Law and Policy team to build a legal shared services function. The GBSC team is predominantly located in a collaborative working environment in the heart of the Mastercard Technology Operations headquartered in St. Louis, MO. Select regional hubs exist to provide additional scale and agility, serving all regions and business units across 50 countries.

The Senior Specialist, serves on a legal team within the broader GBSC Legal Services organization. Reporting to the Senior Counsel, this position will perform complex law firm opinion analysis and be accountable for delivering actionable legal summaries for internal Mastercard use.

Role:

  • You will be a key resource in a comprehensive compliance process, enabling Mastercard's
    understanding of regulations in both existing and new markets, particularly during the introduction
    of new products or market expansions.
  • Review complex law firm opinions and craft concise legal summaries. These summaries serve as
    essential tools for Mastercard legal and business teams to make informed decisions regarding
    product launches and market entry.
  • Ensure that law firm opinions and legal summaries align with Mastercard's established policies and
    guidelines.
  • Collaborate closely with outside counsel, internal departmental attorneys, and subject matter
    experts to collect critical information and facilitate the finalization of law firm opinions.
  • Uphold exceptional customer service standards, prioritizing quality and response time.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of internal systems, with a focus on updating Mastercard’s legal
    scans database.

All About You:

  • Law degree with license to practice law in good standing (preferred) or paralegal certificate,
    combined with relevant experience, is required.
  • Strong background in corporate legal affairs and a proven track record in managing outside
    counsel engagements.
  • Robust business acumen, solid analytical abilities, and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Advanced legal writing skills, essential for transforming complex legal opinions into clear and
    actionable summaries for internal Mastercard use.
  • Ability to discern when to escalate issues and when to exercise independent judgment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with emphasis on collaborating with key legal
    and business stakeholders.
  • Proven dedication to a customer-focused service orientation.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage workloads comprising tasks of varying priority and complexity.
  • Knowledge of legal systems and business practices in North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia
  • Pacific, Middle East, and/or Africa is a valuable asset.
  • Technical capabilities including experience with workflows to be able work comfortably within the
    legal document management tools.
