Principals are expected to independently structure ambiguous problems, work independently and lead small teams through hypothesis-driven analysis, and translate insights into clear executive recommendations. The role requires the ability to move fluidly across strategic topics (e.g., being fluent across various healthcare subsectors, being able to assess new organic businesses, partnerships, M&A, and being able to make linkages to enterprise strategy and stakeholder engagement) while maintaining a high bar for analytical rigor, executive communication, and team leadership.
Qualifications:
-
Master’s degree in business, public health, or equivalent experience/tenure in related field required
-
5+ years of experience in strategy, consulting, or healthcare leadership or equivalent, including experience leading strategy engagements or consulting-style project teams
-
Demonstrated ability to lead complex initiatives and teams
-
Strong analytical, facilitation, and presentation skills
-
Familiarity with healthcare analytics platforms (e.g., Tableau, SQL), and strategic data sources such as SG2, billing/claims data, or provider databases preferred
Key Responsibilities:
-
Serve as day-to-day leader for major strategic projects and initiatives with notable risk and complexity
-
Structure ambiguous strategic questions across a broad range of topics into clear hypotheses and workplans, identifying the critical analyses required to inform executive decision-making
-
Lead the solution of highly complex, unique problems that have a broad impact on the business, including strategic thinking and structured problem solving in collaboration with system executives
-
Distill complex analyses into clear, concise executive narratives and recommendations suitable for senior clinical and administrative leadership
-
Guide development of executive deliverables that align with institutional priorities
-
On a project basis, lead cross-functional teams of Consultants, Sr. Consultants, Engagement Managers, and/or Project Managers
-
Facilitate alignment across departments and cultivate enterprise-wide relationships
-
Develop the strategy for project execution, including setting meeting cadence, structuring decision-making processes, and overseeing all workstreams
-
Translate complex ideas and analyses into insights that influence decision-making at the executive level, including addressing potential questions and objections
-
Serve as a recognized expert / thought leader within the company on strategy, particularly as it relates to current and past projects
-
Support Strategy leadership team in stakeholder communications and thought partnership
-
Act as a “player-coach,” being hands on keyboard independently on some projects, while also providing day-to-day direction and coaching to junior team members on other projects, all while ensuring high standards for analysis, communication, and deliverables
-
Build credibility with senior executives and clinical leaders, facilitating discussions that advance alignment and move complex decisions forward
-
Contribute to development of Strategy team function and capabilities, including team training and development and creating and refining leading practices for the strategy function
