Job Summary

  • Schedule
  • Days: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM / 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
  • Evenings: 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM
  • Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM / 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Mandatory weekend shifts every month
  • Rotating holiday schedule

The RACU/General Medicine is an eighteen-bed unit crafted for the care of patients requiring focused pulmonary care and the care of patients with general medical diagnoses. This role will float between Bigelow 9 General Medicine and Bigelow 13 RACU, providing clinical support based on unit needs.

Position Summary:

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Patient Care Associate (PCA) supports the multidisciplinary healthcare team in providing safe, compassionate, and patient-centered care. PCA assists patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and mobility support, while promoting comfort and maintaining patient dignity. Responsibilities also include monitoring and documenting vital signs, obtaining EKGs, drawing blood, and responding promptly to patient requests while safeguarding confidentiality and always ensuring patient safety.

  • Essential Functions
  • Performs vital signs, weights/heights, intake, and output measurements accurately and within established timeframes and/or as requested
  • Completes all required documentation in the medical record
  • Interact effectively with patients and families
  • Assists patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and toileting
  • Assist patients with turning, repositioning, and transferring between bed and wheelchair as needed
  • Listen to patient concerns and reports changes or concerns to nursing staff promptly

Qualifications Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred:

Licenses and Certifications

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification preferred
  • Certified Medical Assistant (National Certification) preferred
  • Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (Massachusetts) preferred
  • Nursing Assistant (LNA – Massachusetts) preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Strong patient/customer service skills
  • Ability to lift to 35 pounds
  • Proficient computer skills and ability to navigate electronic medical records efficiently.
