Job Summary

Mc Lean Naukeag is a 30-bed, two-week residential treatment program in the Division of Alcohol, Drugs, and Addiction. This per diem position is located in Belmont, MA.

Under direction of the Program Director and Nurse Manager, the Community Residence Counselor (CRC) provides direct patient care and participates in therapeutic milieu within the scope of defined practice.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE: Responsibility Provides direct patient care through group and individual counseling in accordance with current treatment plan. Weight: 30 % Standards: 1.1 Clear, concise, and timely documentation; encounter forms and shift notes. 1.2 Establishes relationships with patients that are helpful and maintains professional boundaries. 1.3 Participates in patient rounds or teams per program guidelines. 1.4 Completes assigned patient care tasks per program guidelines. 1.5 Intervenes in managing complex patient situations. 1.6 Remains awake and alert at all times while on the job. Responsibility: 2. Works effectively to manage the therapeutic milieu. Weight: 25% Standards: 2.1 Participates in leading and co-leading patient groups. 2.2 Provides and supervises community activities according to needs. This may include transporting patients to and from activities in hospital vehicles. 2.3 Provides patients with direction and supervision as needed. 2.4 Follows established program policies, procedures, and protocols. 2.5 Assumes leadership when functioning in charge counselor position by delegating duties and providing supervision when needed. 2.6 Communicates information regarding patient milieu/therapeutic environment to appropriate staff in a timely manner. Responsibility: 3. Supervises patients in taking medication as prescribed. Weight: 15% Standards: 3.1 Follows all program and hospital wide policies and procedures. 3.2 Reports and documents missed doses to appropriate staff. 3.3 Communicates observations related to medication side effects and desired effects to appropriate medical staff in a timely manner. 3.4 Supports nursing staff in assisting patient in acquiring skills to successfully self-medicate. Responsibility 4. Assists patients in their activities of daily living. Weight: _20% Standards: 4.1 Identifies patient’s strengths and deficits related to ADL’s and initiates and implements interventions to meet these needs. 4.2 Assesses sleep patterns and assists patients to develop more appropriate sleep cycles notifying clinical team as necessary. 4.3 Assists patients in maintaining and keeping various appointments. Responsibility 5. Maintains a commitment to professional growth and competency. Weight: 10% Standards 5.1 Completes mandatory in service requirements. 5.2 Identifies areas of strengths and areas needing improvement with supervisor. 5.3 Maintains competency for treating age specific patient populations. 5.4 Uses supervision effectively to enhance professional growth and development. 5.5 Attends and participates in rounds and case conferences when appropriate.

Qualifications

Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent required and Bachelor's Degree Related Field of Study preferred

Licenses and Credentials:

  • Medication Administration Program Certified MAP - Massachusetts
  • Massachusetts Department of Public Health required

Experience:

One-year patient care or related experience preferred, preferably in a psychiatric setting 1-2 years preferred

  • All employees must possess basic computer skills to use a variety of electronic or online systems (PRISM) for communication, clinical and administrative purposes.
