Job Summary

Summary: Provides assistance to the Principal Investigator and Study Team in coordinating research activities that may include conducting a variety of routine experiments with established methodologies, data collection and management, and other research activities as assigned.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for data collection, management, manipulation, analysis, and reporting.
  • Study cohort management.
  • Outreach communication with subjects, conducting mailings, follow-up on mailings, and obtaining necessary documents.
  • Provides assistance on work related to epidemiological studies and other population-based research.

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's Degree Science required.

Experience:

New grad with some relevant coursework 0-1 year preferred.

Prior laboratory research experience preferred.

Our Laboratory in the BWH Division of Neurocritical Care is seeking a highly motivated individual to assist with ongoing and future research studies. This laboratory takes a special focus on acute brain injury, including but not limited to stroke and intracerebral hemorrhage. This role includes both translational laboratory work and clinical research operations.

The Research Assistant will partner closely with the Principal Investigator and research team to plan and execute experiments and manage study workflows. The laboratory component of this role requires the ability to plan experiments based, execute them independently, analyze data, and communicate results effectively with the research team. The clinical research aspect of this role necessitates screening the ICU for eligible patients, obtaining informed consent from patients/family members, coordinating blood sample collection/processing, and maintaining regulatory compliance across all studies. Prior experience in conducting wet lab assays, working with animal models, neuroimaging analysis, database maintenance, and/or statistical analyses is preferred.

The position offers meaningful exposure to translational neurocritical care research, opportunities to contribute to manuscripts and conference presentations, and collaboration with clinicians, researchers, and patients/families.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Execute lab experiments independently and manage several projects at once.
  • Perform animal surgery.
  • Maintain animal colonies.
  • Coordinate samples collection, processing, and laboratory analysis.
  • Basic statistical analysis and preparation of results/figures for presentation.
  • Communicate with PI to plan experiments and interpret results.
  • Participate in weekly lab meeting with monthly presentation of results.
  • In-patient recruitment and informed consent for participation in clinical research studies.
  • Manage storage and inventory of patient samples, as well as storage of patient medical information in research databases, including Excel and Red Cap.
  • Maintain IACUC compliance for animal studies.
  • Maintain IRB compliance for clinical studies, including management of regulatory documents, case report forms, and correspondence with study sponsors.
  • Data extraction from electronic medical records and neuroimaging analysis.
  • Assist with drafting of project and grant applications.
