Overview: The Health Span Lab, directed by Daniel Daneshvar, MD, PhD, at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow with expertise in computational neuroscience, biomedical data science, neurodegenerative disease, or related disciplines. The lab studies the biological, behavioral, and environmental factors that influence healthy aging and long-term function. Research includes the identification of novel biomarkers for concussion diagnosis, the investigation of long-term neurodegenerative outcomes such as chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and improving Health Span through enhanced recovery and therapeutic strategies.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will lead projects using multimodal data including neuroimaging, EEG, electronic health records (EHR), biospecimens, and telemetry. The Fellow will develop advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning models aimed at predicting clinical outcomes, refining diagnostic accuracy, and identifying targets for early intervention in traumatic brain injury and related disorders.
Qualifications:
Key Responsibilities May Include:
- Develop, implement, and validate predictive computational models using multimodal datasets, including EEG, MRI, clinical telemetry, and electronic health records.
- Process and analyze neuroimaging data to explore biomarkers and neural correlates of concussion and neurodegenerative diseases.
- Author manuscripts, abstracts, and presentations for dissemination at national and international scientific meetings.
- Collaborate on grant proposals, protocols, and regulatory documentation related to ongoing research projects.
- Provide mentorship to fellows, residents, research assistants, and other trainees involved in data analysis and computational modeling.
- Engage in regular interdisciplinary meetings and actively contribute to collaborative research networks across Harvard Medical School, Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, and affiliated institutions.
Qualifications:
- PhD or equivalent terminal degree in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, bioinformatics, computer science, biostatistics, data science, or a related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in machine learning methods, artificial intelligence, and computational modeling techniques applied to biomedical research.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as R, MATLAB, or Python.
- Experience with EEG, neuroimaging (MRI, DTI, fMRI), or physiologic telemetry data.
- Ability to integrate and analyze large-scale clinical or biomedical datasets.
- Strong publication record and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to independently design experiments, solve research problems, and effectively collaborate in an interdisciplinary team setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience in research related to traumatic brain injury, concussion, or neurodegeneration.
- Experience working with clinical databases and familiarity with regulatory processes for human subjects research, including IRB procedures.
What We Offer:
- A dynamic, interdisciplinary research environment at the forefront of neuroscience, longevity, and sports research.
- Access to large-scale clinical datasets.
- Opportunities to publish in top-tier journals and present at leading conferences.
- A collaborative and intellectually stimulating research team with strong neuroscience expertise.
