Site: The General Hospital Corporation

Mass General Brigham relies on a wide range of professionals, including doctors, nurses, business people, tech experts, researchers, and systems analysts to advance our mission. As a not-for-profit, we support patient care, research, teaching, and community service, striving to provide exceptional care. We believe that high-performing teams drive groundbreaking medical discoveries and invite all applicants to join us and experience what it means to be part of Mass General Brigham.

Dr. Bettina Hoeppner in the Psychiatry Department of Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) is seeking to recruit full-time Clinical Research Coordinator I (CRC) for an expected start date of June 1, 2026.

The overall goal of Dr. Hoeppner’s program of research is to improve access to care for persons seeking to overcome problematic substance use. Dr. Hoeppner’s research team focuses on two broad areas of research: (1) advancing the science on recovery community centers, and (2) leveraging smartphone app technology and positive psychology to support smoking cessation in different populations (e.g., nondaily smokers, individuals who are HIV positive).

The CRC will support Dr. Hoeppner’s team across multiple research projects. Mobile technologies will be used (e.g., smartphone app, online surveying), and thus familiarity with and interest in mobile technologies for health behavior change is preferred. The CRC will be responsible for a variety of study tasks, including participant management (e.g., recruitment, enrollment, and follow-ups), correspondence with the Institutional Review Board (IRB), study data management, and assistance with grant administration and submissions.

Teamwork and mentoring are integral components of our team’s culture. The CRC will be involved in providing supervision and guidance to undergraduate interns that join the team for year-long and/or summer internship opportunities. The CRC will have the opportunity to participate in weekly journal club meetings designed to enhance the experience of reading research papers, monthly (or so) career development presentations (i.e., grad students, postdocs and faculty from MGH and/or other institutions sharing their career path and lessons learned) and will have access to other educational opportunities provided by MGH and Harvard Medical School (e.g., the MGH Psychiatry Department Grand Rounds presentations).

Note also that Dr. Hoeppner’s team (i.e., the Health through Flourishing Program) partners with MGH’s Health Promotion and Resiliency Intervention Research (HPRIR) Center (https://hprir.massgeneral.org/), directed by Dr. Elyse Park, which is a joint initiative between the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Mongan Institute and the MGH Department of Psychiatry to harness the strengths of interdisciplinary behavioral science delivery research. The CRC will be collaborating with this team as well while supporting the research activities in Dr. Hoeppner’s lab. The ideal candidate has an interest in positive psychology, mHealth technologies, smoking cessation, recovery from substance use disorder, recovery support services and/or approaches that seek to address existing health disparities.

The position is a particularly good fit for candidates seeking to pursue a graduate degree in psychology in the future. Familiarity with REDCap, Outlook, Endnote, and SAS is a plus. The desire to learn and the ability to function as part of a team is a must. The ideal applicant demonstrates initiative, flexibility, leadership, and an independent work ethic. Good communication skills and an affinity for teamwork are critical. The ability to work effectively in a remote-work setting (e.g., use of Zoom, shared calendars, shared files) is critically important for this position.
