Reporting to the Head of Marine People and Culture and part of the Marine People and Culture leadership team, the Global Head of Marine Labour Relations will lead our efforts in establishing and implementing our labour relations strategy while putting our seagoing colleagues in the heart of everything we do. Being the owner of the CBA’s and responsible for the negotiation strategy of these combined with ownership of maintaining a good and professional relationship with counterparts in the unions is a critical part of this role.

Similarly, the Head of Global Marine Labour Relations is the owner of the complaints handling for fleet and is the manager of a highly experienced team managing complaints cases as well as wage analyses and increments for seafarers.

The Head of Global Marine Labour Relations is a trusted to advisor to colleagues and management on legal and compliance matters that relate to running a global fleet. We are looking for a colleague who combines legal expertise with business acumen and has strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.

The Marine People and Culture team is responsible for the safe manning of the owned fleet consisting of around 300 vessels and is a key enabler of the Fleet Management and Technology strategy. The function manages a pool of around 13.000 seagoing colleagues from 34 different nations and is focused on creating a psychologically safe, respectful, and inclusive working environment for our colleagues at sea. Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for our global marine labour relations strategy and the continuous improvement of this.
  • Maintain strong relationship with labour organisations and minimize any negative impact of collective disputes.
  • Manage negotiations with employee representative bodies and ensure a conflict free work environment.
  • Support Maersk representatives in Danish Shipping on issues relating to DIS, tonnage tax and other political sensitive topics.
  • Represent Maersk in relevant work groups in Danish Shipping
  • Optimize contract landscape, ensure all contracts are up to date and aligning with current reality. Challenge the existing and negotiate with unions for changes
  • Managerial responsibility for a small team of highly experienced individuals, covering complaints handling and wages.
  • Support the cultural transformation journey of the fleet, work closely with many teams across FMT on this topic.
  • Support the head of FMT and the FMT management team as required on legal and contractual challenges.

What are we looking for:

  • Experience of dealing with complex labour relations matters with global representation.
  • Experience in negotiating CBA’s and managing disputes with relevant unions.
  • Understanding of Danish and international labour law is an advantage.
  • Understanding of legal and contractual aspects related to complaint case handling and outcomes.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
