About the role

Description:

Senior‑level Software Engineer to lead the development, integration, and maintenance of the Recording, Commanding, and Telemetry Unit (RCTU) software stack within our Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE) portfolio. The successful candidate will partner with hardware engineers, test specialists, and mission teams to deliver reliable, high‑performance software that drives command injection, telemetry acquisition, and timing synchronization for spacecraft pre‑launch testing.

  • Key Responsibilities

  • Architect & Develop the core RCTU software, including real‑time command/telemetry handling, timing services, data recording, and safety interlocks.

  • Lead Technical Design reviews, code inspections, and integration testing with the EGSE hardware.

  • Implement Test Automation frameworks and scripting interfaces to enable end‑to‑end test sequences.

  • Collaborate Cross‑Functionally with hardware engineers and flight software groups to define interface specifications and ensure seamless system‑level operation.

  • Maintain Configuration Management using Perforce, or equivalent; enforce CI/CD pipelines for build, verification, and regression testing.

  • Provide Technical Mentorship to junior engineers, fostering best practices in real‑time and safety‑critical software development.

  • Support Qualification & Certification activities for the RCTU software, preparing documentation and evidence for reviews and audits.

  • Troubleshoot & Resolve anomalies discovered during hardware‑in‑the‑loop (HIL) and spacecraft integration tests; drive root‑cause analysis and corrective actions.

  • Drive Continuous Improvement by evaluating emerging tools, libraries, and methodologies that can enhance EGSE test efficiency and reliability.
    Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field from an accredited college or equivalent experience/combined education

  • Proficiency in C/C++, Python, and scripting languages for test automation

  • Familiarity with low‑level drivers and hardware‑interface programming

  • Familiarity with network communications protocols (TCP and UDP both multicast and unicast)

  • Experience working on project teams and development efforts

  • Experience developing software requirements, CONOPs, and software design

  • Experience with product life cycle (development, deployment, retirement)

  • Issue Tracking and troubleshooting experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to convey complex technical concepts to multidisciplinary audiences
    Desired Skills:

  • 8+ years of professional software development, with ≥4 years in real‑time, embedded, or safety‑critical environments

  • Direct experience with Electrical Ground Support Equipment (EGSE), test equipment, or aerospace ground‑support systems

  • Experience in simulation software development, software testing and validation, and software configuration management

  • Experience with Telemetry Data Processing (TDP)

  • Experience working with RF

  • Experience with multiple OS platforms such as Linux and Windows

  • Systems thinking mindset

  • Experience with Agile and DevOps processes and culture

  • Experience with Jira or other Atlassian tool sets

  • Must be able to work autonomously and drive items to closure

Ability to Work Remotely:

Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules:

Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate:

The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $113,900 - $200,905. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
