THE WORK

  • Lead systems‑engineer activities for avionics subsystems across the full product lifecycle.
  • Translate customer requirements into technical solutions, define software/hardware interfaces, verify requirements, and integrate safety‑critical systems.
  • Support design and certification of embedded mission software for modern defense platforms (software‑requirements development or C‑code test procedures as needed).
  • Develop high‑level and low‑level system, software, and subsystem requirements and maintain a comprehensive traceability matrix.
  • Author and update Interface Control Documents (ICDs) for internal & external hardware/software interfaces.
  • Create/review algorithms that satisfy performance and safety constraints.
  • Allocate requirements to the appropriate engineering discipline (software, hardware, integration, test).
  • Apply Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to solve complex problems.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (hardware, software, integration/test) on interface definition, issue resolution, and performance validation.
  • Produce test plans, procedures, and detailed reports; execute integration, verification, and validation (IV&V) tests.
  • Design and implement C/C++ test procedures that verify all SRS high‑level and SDD low‑level software requirements.
  • Conduct lab investigations, troubleshoot software issues, and perform regression analysis.
  • Ensure full traceability of test results back to original requirements and generate verification reports.
  • Operate in a software‑development lab environment using Dev Sec Ops and CI/CD best practices.

  • Experienced systems‑engineer with a proven track record on avionics or defense‑industry projects.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication; able to present technical information to senior internal and external stakeholders.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 5 years of professional systems‑engineering experience or 3 years with a Master’s degree.
  • Experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) – Preferably CAMEO
  • Experience working on cross-functional teams (Hardware, Software, Integration/Test)
  • Experience with requirements analysis and decomposition.
  • Experience interpreting and updating Interface Control Documents

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of system design, requirements definition, and documentation standards (e.g., DO‑178C).
  • Familiarity with system verification/test documentation and conduct, including traceability matrix creation.
  • Programming proficiency in C, C++, or Python (for developing verification test code).
  • Experience with Real‑Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and embedded platforms.
  • Current active Secret security clearance.
  • Understanding of system architectures and how software verification integrates with overall system engineering.

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $89,300 - $157,550. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.
(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
