We are seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer to support a major missile system production program by driving, managing, and executing continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing, supply chain, and engineering functions. This role blends systems thinking, financial analysis, and hands-on project execution. The ideal candidate has strong analytical abilities, solid communication skills, and experience delivering improvements in a fast-paced production environment.

The Project Engineer will be responsible for maintaining the continuous improvement pipeline, performing ROI and cost-benefit analyses, securing funding, and managing the implementation of selected improvement projects from concept through closure.

  • Key Responsibilities

  • Track, organize, and maintain a portfolio of continuous improvement ideas for a high-visibility missile production program.

  • Facilitate idea intake sessions with engineering, operations, quality, and supply chain stakeholders.

  • Conduct ROI, payback period, and cost-benefit analyses for proposed improvements.

  • Develop business cases and secure funding approval for top-priority initiatives.

  • Partner with functional teams to define project scope, schedules, deliverables, and resource needs.

  • Lead and manage improvement projects through full lifecycle—planning, execution, risk tracking, and closure.

  • Report status, performance metrics, and financial impacts to program leadership.

  • Ensure improvements align with program goals for cost reduction, cycle time, quality, and throughput.

  • Maintain configuration-controlled documentation and updates for the continuous improvement pipeline.

  • Support production readiness, factory optimization, and engineering change activities as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field.
Demonstrated experience with engineering, production, or project management experience.
Ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams and program leadership.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
Active DoD Secret Clearance or ability to obtain one

Desired Skills:

Experience supporting missile programs, aerospace production, or other complex weapons systems.
Demonstrated experience leading or supporting technical or process improvement projects.
Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including ability to conduct ROI and financial analyses.
Familiarity with EVMS, manufacturing operations, or production system optimization.
Experience generating business cases and securing financial approval for projects.
Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement training/certification (Green Belt or higher).
Experience with configuration-controlled databases or improvement tracking tools.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.

Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California, Massachusetts, and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New Jersey, Vermont, Washington or Washington DC is $104,500 - $184,115. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.
(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.
