The Role

You will have the opportunity to be part of a very special team for Live Nation’s newest Canadian venue, HISTORY Ottawa. A state-of-the-art venue with a capacity of up to 2000 hosting over 180 concerts and private events annually. The Assistant Technical Director is responsible for supporting the Technical Director and ensuring the success of show and event productions by managing the day-to-day technical and personnel aspects of the Production department through detailed preparation.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Technical Director in the day-to-day functions of the business.

  • Assume the responsibilities of the Technical Director when they are not present in the venue.

  • Ensure production needs of the incoming show are implemented as advanced by the Technical Director.

  • Ensure production consumable inventory is maintained and up to date.

  • Perform as production lead for the in-house crew to meet the needs of the incoming tour’s production.

  • Assist in maintaining department manuals and training materials for all production positions.

  • Assist and support in-house production department personnel with job functions as needed.

  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of the inventory and maintenance log.

  • Assist in providing information to assist Technical Director in communications with Venue and Corporate Management.

  • Assist with facilitating proper interdepartmental communication and organization

  • Perform as Production Lead to assist in managing in-house stage, sound, and lighting crews.

  • Coordinate operational feedback with the Technical Director.

  • Coordinate and assist the technical director in ensuring ongoing equipment operational readiness such as equipment firmware programming, ongoing system tuning, bulb replacement, etc.

  • Assist with the maintenance of audio, lighting, backline, and video systems advising repairs when needed.

  • Assist in the advancement of concerts and the needs of the concert tour as well as handle the advance of special events, rentals, and additional content as it relates to the entire space of the venue

  • Ensure equipment status and repair needs are communicated to the Technical Director on a regular and timely basis.

  • Responsible for safe and consistent operation of all equipment.

  • Attend production and operations meetings as outlined by the Talent Buyer, Technical Director and/or the General Manager.

  • Responsible for reporting to TD and GM, and delivering disciplinary and corrective actions to the production crew when necessary.

  • Ensure a positive and creative environment for the in-house crew.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1-year leadership experience in an entertainment venue.

  • 5 years+ tour and or stage production experience or equivalent.

  • Experience in stage lighting, pro audio systems, and basic video systems.

  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to make clear concise decisions; sometimes with limited information.

  • Computer literate in common production, Windows & Mac OS applications (i.e. SMAART, Vectorworks).

  • Familiarization and literacy with technical protocols such as:

  • Analog audio & video

  • Networked audio (i.e. Dante, AVB, MILAN)

  • Digital Audio (i.e. MIDI, AES)

  • Lighting Protocols (i.e. DMX)

  • Video Protocols (i.e. SDI)

  • Networked Video (i.e. NDI, SMPTE2110)

  • Immersive Audio & Video (i.e. Dolby Atmos, Sony 360)

  • Must possess superior interpersonal communication and organizational skills

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays as required.

  • Working environment is fast-paced and often loud.

  • Position requires extended periods of prolonged standing, lifting, bending, reaching, and working on your feet.

  • Must be able to lift or move up to 75 lbs. using proper lifting techniques.

  • Able to wear a radio earpiece during the scheduled shift.

The expected compensation for this position in Ontario is $32-$38 per hour.
