About the role

Use Litigation Protocols to develop and revise appropriate legal strategies for discovery, investigation, handling and trial/hearing of cases or matters Responsible for appearances before the Workers Compensation Appeals Board, conducting depositions, drafting, and filing summations, appeals and rebuttals. Research the law applicable to cases or matters, draft legal documents, pleadings, motions, briefs, and opinions as required. Conduct settlement negotiations. Advise, communicate and confer with Claims Representatives and Insured Clients, rendering clear, unambiguous legal opinions and advice. Personally meet with and maintain good relations and communications with Claims Representatives and Insured Clients as required. Remain current with developments in the law. Analyze and rate medical reports, and develop issues and defenses involved with cases or matters. Prepare and conduct training sessions for Legal, Claims or other departments as required. Be available to provide daily directions and guidance to junior attorneys. Understand and creatively use technology; apply technology to the process of law to improve quality and reduce costs. Be a team or group leader for assigned groups within the office, the state or nationally Interface with the Home-Office for the Legal Department Membership in the California State Bar in good standing A minimum of five years' experience in California Workers Compensation is strongly preferred Talent for cultivating strong working relationships with internal and external partners Aptitude for detailed, analytical thinking Process-oriented mindset, with proven ability to meet deadlines and stay organized Excellent oral and written communication skills Familiarity with the latest developments in the practice of law, as well as pertinent knowledge in related fields Proficiency with technologies that reduce costs and facilitate the practice of law and remote work JD degree Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school. Admission to the bar in California and in good standing; special licenses to practice before particular boards or federal courts may be required. Minimum of 5 years of successful trial attorney experience, preferably within insurance law and related litigation. Proven experience managing moderately complex litigation with demonstrated success in achieving favorable outcomes. General knowledge of insurance law, and as necessary, workers' compensation and/or No Fault law. Exceptional legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills. Proficient in advanced e-discovery tools, legal case management software, and remote collaboration technologies. Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead junior attorneys and legal staff. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and client relationship management skills. Commitment to ethical legal practice and compliance with all regulatory and professional standards.
