We are looking for a skilled Catastrophe Modeler who is eager to revolutionize home insurance with us. Joining our Insurance and Data Science teams, you will be critical in modernizing our pricing discipline across every facet of Lemonade—from distribution and underwriting to claims, compliance, and finance.

Your work will directly ensure fairness and accuracy in our pricing, leveraging complex data and data science to optimize the customer experience. This role is essential for our continued product expansion into new states and scaling our profitable growth.

In this role you'll

• Own Catastrophe (CAT) pricing strategy, leveraging complex data to deliver state-specific recommendations

• Lead the development and integration of cutting-edge predictive modeling projects in close partnership with the Insurance and Data Science teams

• Craft comprehensive rate filing support for new machine learning models to ensure compliance and adoption

• Recommend proactive pricing and underwriting actions based on robust CAT models and analytics

• Build a deep knowledge base of competitor rating strategies and the overall competitive landscape

• Develop the rates and pricing strategy for product expansions in new states

• Assist in the design and development of internal pricing software to support real-time decision making and scalable growth

• Coach and mentor analysts, elevating the technical capabilities of the team

What you'll need

• 8+ years of statistical modeling experience

• Advanced experience developing and implementing predictive models using both supervised and unsupervised machine learning approaches such as GLM, decision tree, and gradient boosting machines

• Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Economics, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuarial Science or a related field (or equivalent experience)

• Proficiency in data science programming languages such as R or Python (preferred), and database query tools such as SQL

• Ability to work in a remote environment

• Prior experience in the insurance industry is a plus

• Enthusiasm about learning and adapting to the exciting world of AI – a commitment to exploring this field is a fundamental part of our culture

Lemonade's US base salary range for this full-time position is $160,000 - $185,000 plus equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
