Do Work That Matters

Leidos Australia delivers IT and airborne solutions that protect and advance the Australian way of life. Our 2000 local experts, backed by our global experience and network of partners, are working to solve the world’s toughest challenges in government, intelligence, defence, aviation, border protection and health markets.

Your New Role and Responsibilities

We are seeking a capable and proactive Service Operations Lead to support the BAU and RUN operations of our Geospatial Platform, contributing to the Bureau of Meteorology’s mission from our Melbourne office.

This role is ideal for someone with strong ITIL/SIAM foundations and solid operational experience who is ready to step into broader service delivery responsibilities, with coaching and oversight from an experienced Service Delivery Manager.

You will coordinate BAU/RUN activities, support releases, contribute to governance rhythms, and ensure smooth collaboration across RUN, enhancements, and customer stakeholders. The role requires someone who is organised, technically aware, and confident working independently day‑to‑day.

Key Responsibilities

  • Overseeing daily BAU and RUN activities for the Geospatial platform, ensuring stable, reliable service and timely response to operational issues.

  • Coordinating incident, problem, and change workflows with the RUN Team Lead and relevant technical resources.

  • Maintaining and enhancing service documentation, runbooks, procedures, and operational knowledge.

  • Tracking and managing SLAs, service performance metrics, operational trends, backlog items, and improvement actions.

  • Supporting the planning and coordination of major releases, including readiness checks, deployment scheduling, and post‑release validation.

  • Engaging in technical discussions with engineers and translating issues into clear, business‑friendly language for stakeholders.

  • Demonstrating a working understanding of platform components and common troubleshooting patterns.

  • Identifying and implementing opportunities for continual service improvement across processes, tools, and team capability.

About You and What You'll Bring

  • Experience in Service Delivery, Application Support, or Operational Coordination within high‑availability or sustainment environments.

  • Strong grounding in ITIL (incident/problem/change), with the ability to run structured service processes.

  • Capability to manage day‑to‑day BAU/RUN operations and coordinate work across multiple technical teams.

  • Confidence communicating with customers and stakeholders, with the ability to contribute to governance discussions.

  • Solid organisational and reporting skills - including maintaining dashboards, reports, and service documentation.

  • A proactive, improvement focused mindset and a desire to grow into a more senior SDM role over time.

  • Technical curiosity and comfort working closely with engineers, even if not a deep technical specialist.

This role does require the successful applicant to be an Australian Citizen and hold a Baseline security clearance.
