Job responsibilities

  • Lead the design and implementation of robust control frameworks that ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies, aligned to the Compliance and Operational Risk Evaluation (CORE) program.
  • Cultivate and leverage strategic relationships with Personal Investing stakeholders to proactively identify risks across new and existing products and design effective mitigation strategies that support business objectives and regulatory expectations.
  • Develop a deep understanding of Trading and Operations processes; systematically identify potential risks and embed efficient, scalable controls that enhance operational integrity and support delivery.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments for product development and change initiatives; ensure risks are identified, evaluated, and addressed through well‑designed preventative and detective controls.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of existing controls; recommend targeted improvements, automation opportunities, and sustainable remediation.
  • Provide training and guidance on control processes, CORE practices, and risk culture; foster proactive ownership of operational risk across teams.
  • Contribute across four CORE pillars: i) Control Design & Expertise; ii) Risks & Controls Identification/Assessment; iii) Issue Management; iv) Control Governance & Reporting.
  • Support consistent, rigorous operational risk practices and control programs, including control committee reporting, risk mitigation plans, key risk indicators, control performance evaluations, and independent challenge.
  • Review, analyze, and manage KRI/KPI and other program metrics to assess the health of the control environment and inform risk‑based decision‑making.
  • Translate business processes into risk & control heatmaps and dashboards to facilitate prioritization and senior‑level discussions.
  • Partner effectively with colleagues across business, operations management, legal, compliance, risk, audit, and technology control functions to maintain strong working loops and deliver outcomes.

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Strong experience in Operational Risk Management gained within product management, controls, compliance, audit, wealth management, or a comparable environment in a large financial institution, regulator, consultancy, or retail investments manager.
  • Demonstrated acumen for risk identification and assessment and for designing effective, sustainable control mechanisms across both existing businesses and new product initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of wealth management products, regulations, and associated risks.
  • Good knowledge of FCA requirements and regulatory expectations, including general investments, CASS, and Consumer Duty; familiarity with ISA and Pension regulations is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of the full trade lifecycle—from order initiation and execution through capture, confirmation, and settlement—and experience working with trading systems and the operational processes/control requirements supporting trade management.
  • Proven ability to articulate key risks within business processes and translate them into risk & control heatmaps and prioritized action plans.
  • Experience partnering with business and other stakeholders to manage remediation of operational risk issues to closure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders in a meaningful and actionable manner.
  • Experience with process mapping and controls documentation; comfortable working in an agile, evolving environment.
  • Effective time management and prioritization; detail‑oriented with high levels of accuracy and integrity.
