Asset Management - Tax Manager - Vice President
Are you ready to advance your in depth tax knowledge of various funds in the region? Then, this is the role for you to manage and own tax compliance oversight of markets.
- As a Tax Manager
- Vice President within the Asset Management Operations team, you will enhance investor returns and lead tax support for the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Hong Kong Fund Range. You will cover portfolio tax deliverables for Hong Kong funds with potential expansion to Taiwan, Australia, and Japan. You will develop and manage APAC oversight and governance to identify improvements and key risks, while owning tax compliance oversight across invested markets to secure appropriate tax treatment and complete tax documentation and regulatory reporting on time for our Asia fund ranges. You will also ensure tax procedures are maintained and implemented, manage tax-related interactions, and cultivate relationships with internal teams and external service providers supporting the Hong Kong Fund Range.
Job responsibilities:

Monitor practical tax developments in different markets and understand how the tax regulations impact operational processes and the funds.

Update policies and procedures to comply with the tax regulations and implement and monitor internal controls to ensure tax compliance.

Work with technology and intelligent automation tools to help automate processes across Asia Pacific

Design, develop and coordinate the Asia Pacific oversight and governance process relating to tax lifecycle events

Provide technical input on any tax-related product or other requests

Own and manage outstanding/expiring tax documentation (i.e. US and foreign withholding tax requirements W-8, W-9 as applicable), Documentation for Relief at Source and Reclaims, capital gains tax, financial transaction tax, tax regulatory reporting, and oversight on internal teams cover Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA), Common Reporting Standard (CRS), 1099, 1042, and Canada Tax reporting

Ensure close collaboration with the Operations teams including Corporate Actions and Fund Accounting, Trustee, Tax Advisor and Internal Tax teams

Analyse root-cause of recurring issues through regular review of metrics, and assist in developing programmes for service enhancements arising from these figures

Review operational tax processes to identify areas for enhancement

Identify and escalate tax risks and participate in resolution

Assist in Fund reviews and ad-hoc global tax projects implementation across the wider business and Internal Tax team
Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills:

Bachelor's degree
-
7+ years’ relevant working experience within asset management tax operations, custodian client tax support, accounting firms and/or other professional institutions

Strong understanding of Hong Kong Mutual funds and taxes impacting global investments to ensure the fund obtains best tax rate on investment income

Effective interpersonal skills and able to maintain good stakeholder relationships

Good communication skills in both spoken and written English.

Proven track record in successful risk awareness, operational control, problem solving and process improvement

Comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities, ability to work under pressure and multiple strict timeframes
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills:
- Strong data management skills will be considered to be an advantage
