As a Vice President in the Japan Product Development Team, you will collaborate with diverse internal stakeholders to understand market needs and achieve commercial objectives. You will be instrumental in managing product development initiatives, ensuring compliance with local regulations, and supporting sales and marketing efforts. Your expertise will contribute to the firm's reputation as a leader in investment management.

In this role, you will work closely with regional and global teams to identify product gaps and opportunities, leveraging market and regulatory trends to enhance our product range. Your contributions will support the firm's mission to provide exceptional investment management services and expand our market presence in Japan.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop strong partnerships with internal stakeholders to understand market needs and provide solutions that meet commercial objectives in a timely manner.
  • Drive and manage local product development initiatives, liaising with key stakeholders, external legal counsel and regulatory authorities, in respect of new funds and product management matters. Respond to regulators’ questions in a timely and professional manner to closely track the regulatory application process.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on new products, changes to existing products or newly introduced product features, to support sales and marketing efforts.
  • Present new product initiatives at local, regional, and global product committees.
  • Stay informed about local regulatory and industry developments impacting the product range.
  • Draft product overview documents for Japan onshore funds.
  • Register non-Japan domiciled funds with local regulators.
  • Work closely with the regional Product Development teams located across US, EMEA, and APAC, to ensure consistent and seamless execution of corporate actions.
  • Adopt firm-wide best practices in facilitating the governance processes, the individual will be heavily involved in the preparation, review and approval of any new product initiatives at local, regional and global committees.
  • Support the local Japan or regional Product Development team in identifying product gaps and opportunities, capitalizing on market and regulatory developments and trends and reviewing the commercial viability of the local product range(s).
  • Participate actively and provide feedback in the implementation of product related systems or other technology projects.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:

  • 6+ years of experience within the Japan funds industry; flexibility to consider less experienced candidate for Associate title
  • Sound working knowledge across traditional mutual funds, alternatives, ETFs and regulatory environment in Japan.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex matters in a concise and meaningful way.
  • Experience working with geographically distributed and functionally diverse teams.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and dynamically shifting priorities, timelines, and demands.
  • In-depth experience with fund offering documents and related regulations.
  • Experience of working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, also with ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong project management and stakeholder management skills; comfort with working across geography, time zones and functions to effectively lead and contribute in large workgroup settings independently.
  • Fluency in written and spoken Japanese and English.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, particularly PowerPoint and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills:

  • Degree in business, law, or finance; CFA is a plus.
