Learn more about our flexible approach to where we work.
Overview
Join Instacart’s Revenue Accounting team and help shape how we recognize and report revenue across our rapidly evolving retailer ecosystem. You will focus on retailer-related revenue streams while supporting international expansion and future acquisitions, partnering closely with teams across Accounting & Finance, Data, Legal, Sales, and Operations to deliver accurate, timely, and insightful results.
This role is a foundational member of a new international revenue accounting pod composed of a Manager and a Senior Accountant. You will roll up your sleeves to operationalize new markets, standardize policies, and drive automation using tools like Alteryx and AI-enabled workflows—all in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
If you thrive in ambiguity, enjoy building scalable processes, and want your work to directly influence how the business grows globally, this is an exciting opportunity to make an outsized impact.
About the Job
-
Own end-to-end revenue accounting for retailer-related revenue streams across multiple entities, including month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and revenue analytics under ASC 606.
-
Support international expansion and acquisitions by operationalizing revenue policies, mapping data and opening balances, and integrating new entities and products into our revenue processes and systems.
-
Drive process improvement and automation using tools such as Alteryx and SQL-enabled workflows to reduce manual work, improve accuracy, and shorten close timelines.
-
Partner cross-functionally with Finance (FP&A, Billing, Collections), Data/Engineering, Legal, and Sales to ensure contract terms, data pipelines, and system configurations align with revenue recognition requirements.
-
Maintain strong internal controls over financial reporting, prepare audit-ready documentation, and manage external audit and SOX requests related to retailer revenue.
-
Deliver clear, decision-ready reporting and insights on revenue drivers, trends, and variances, and proactively identify risks and opportunities as the business evolves.
About You
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
-
4+ years of experience in revenue accounting under US GAAP, including hands-on ownership of month-end close activities and account reconciliations.
-
Practical knowledge of ASC 606 (revenue recognition), including contract review, variable consideration, and deferred revenue.
-
Proficiency in Excel (e.g., pivot tables, lookups) and comfort working with large datasets and revenue subledgers; experience preparing audit-ready workpapers.
-
Experience operating in a fast-paced environment with cross-functional partners and maintaining SOX-compliant processes and documentation.
-
Ability to support West Coast business hours in a remote-first environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
-
CPA (active) or progress toward CPA.
-
Experience with international operations, multi-entity/multi-currency environments, and familiarity with IFRS 15.
-
Hands-on experience with ERP and revenue systems (e.g., Net Suite, Workday Financials, Zuora, Rev Pro/Rev Rec), and data/automation tools (e.g., Alteryx, SQL, Python).
-
Background supporting M&A integrations (policy alignment, system/process onboarding, opening balance and data mapping).
-
Track record of driving measurable process improvements that reduce manual work and accelerate close timelines.
