Job Overview:
ILC Dover is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer with a strong electrical systems and programming background to support Defense and Space programs. This role is responsible for embedding Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles into product development while also serving as the test engineering lead for defined products when laboratory testing is required.
This is a highly cross functional role that bridges design, manufacturing and testing, ensuring products transition efficiently from development to production while meeting performance, quality, and verification requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Drive Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles throughout the product development lifecycle
- Partner with Design Engineering to improve manufacturability, reduce complexity, and increase first pass yield; Serve as the technical interface between Engineering and Manufacturing
- Evaluate designs for part count reduction, tolerance stack-ups, material and process selection, assembly and test efficiency
- Lead manufacturing readiness and producibility reviews
- Serve as the Test Engineer for space and defense products during laboratory testing. Develop and execute test plans, procedures, verification and validation activities
- Support functional, environmental, and integration testing; Analyze test data and drive root cause and corrective actions for failures
- Ensure test activities align with program, quality, and customer requirements
- Work closely with Quality, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Program Management to support issue resolution across design, build, and test phases
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across engineering and manufacturing processes
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, electrical engineering, test engineering, or a hybrid role.
- Hands on experience supporting hardware development and testing.
- Understanding of design for manufacturing principles, manufacturing processes and assembly methods, and test planning and execution.
- Ability to work effectively in a lab and production environment.
Core Competencies:
- Strong problem solving and communication skills.
Preferences:
- Experience supporting Defense, Aerospace, or Space Systems.
- Experience with pressure systems, softgoods, or complex assemblies.
- Experience with electrical engineering or basic electrical theory.
- General programming experience and exposure to programmable logic controllers (PLC) and data acquisition (DAQ) systems.
- Competency in AutoCAD 2-D drafting and Solid Works 3-D modeling.
- Familiarity with qualification, acceptance, or environmental testing.
- Experience transitioning products from development into production.
- Experience working in regulated or mission critical environments.
