Your role and responsibilities
Design, implement, and maintain DevOps pipelines for z/OS applications including COBOL, PL/I, Assembler, and JCL
Build and manage continuous integration and continuous deployment pipelines using tools like Jenkins, Urban Code Deploy (UCD), GitLab CI/CD, or Azure DevOps for mainframe applications
Implement and manage SCM solutions for mainframe including Endevor, Git integration with z/OS, and version control best practices
Automate build, test, deployment, and release processes for z/OS workloads
Work with development teams to integrate mainframe applications with distributed systems, APIs, and cloud platforms
Implement and manage automation using Ansible, REXX, shell scripts, and z/OSMF workflows
Collaborate with application, infrastructure, security to drive DevOps adoption
Support hybrid cloud and modernization initiatives involving IBM Z
Ensure high availability, performance, and security compliance of mission‑critical systems
Troubleshoot pipeline, deployment, and environment issues across z/OS and distributed platforms
Promote DevOps culture, Agile practices, and continuous improvement
Set up and maintain monitoring solutions for mainframe applications and infrastructure using tools like IBM Z Integration Observability
Required education
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred education
Master's Degree
Required technical and professional expertise
Strong understanding of z/OS architecture, JCL, TSO/ISPF, USS (Unix System Services)
Proficiency in COBOL, JCL, REXX, and understanding of PL/I and Assembler
Experience with Endevor, Changeman, or other mainframe SCM tools
Working knowledge of CICS transactions and DB2 database management
Hands-on experience with Jenkins, Urban Code Deploy, GitLab CI/CD, or Azure DevOps
Proficiency in Git, GitHub/GitLab, and integration with mainframe SCM systems
Understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration
Strong scripting skills in Python, Groovy, Shell, and REXX
Experience with REST APIs, JSON, XML, and integration patterns
Understanding of MQ, IMS, CICS, and other mainframe middleware
Experience with IBM Z monitoring tools, Splunk, ELK stack, or Prometheus/Grafana
Knowledge of RACF or ACF2 for mainframe security
Familiarity with IBM Wazi Code, Application Discovery and Delivery Intelligence (ADDI), or Watson Code Assistant for Z
Knowledge of z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition and API enablement
Preferred technical and professional experience
Experience with Red Hat Open Shift on IBM Z:
Knowledge of z/OS Connect Enterprise Edition and API enablement
Exposure to hybrid cloud architectures
Experience with Zowe CLI, Zowe Explorer, and Zowe API Mediation Layer
Experience with IBM Info Sphere Data Replication, CDC for VSAM, or similar tools
Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Splunk, OMEGAMON, Instana)
Knowledge of Kafka, MQ, or event streaming platforms
IBM Z, Red Hat, or DevOps-related certifications
Background in banking, financial services, or large-scale enterprise systems
Experience mentoring teams or leading DevOps transformation initiatives
