Job Title: Apprentice – Prototype Machinist

Job Summary:

As a Prototype Machinist Apprentice at Honeywell, in Luton, you will gain hands-on experience in our model and machine shop where we create new, bespoke, prototypes as part of our development process and modify our current products, such as water meters and production equipment. You will gain full exposure to learn the methods and techniques to produce models and prototypes assisting in all aspects of the machine shop operation.

This apprenticeship is designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in a dynamic engineering environment.

This role is part of our Early Careers Relations program, designed to help students and recent graduates launch their careers with hands-on experience, mentorship, and opportunities for growth within Honeywell. This apprenticeship is set up for four years, starting from August 2026.

Honeywell will provide you with the courses to gain industry recognised engineering apprenticeship qualifications alongside a salary, with annual uplifts, and competitive benefits. This apprenticeship is a mixture of academic and practical onsite learning.

You will work closely with your mentor to gain hands-on experience within a friendly and supportive team to be trained to achieve the following:

• Taking people’s concepts, (from full engineering drawings to 121 chats, so you will use your new skills and flair to create), to produce prototype parts

• Assist with stock and tool management by looking at what we may need in terms of tools and materials in the future

• We try to maintain and fix our machines ourselves, as we have pride in our work, so you will have the opportunity to flex your mechanical muscles too

• We take pride in our workplace by working as a team, to ensure the site operates smoothly; no task is to big or small for any of us

• Health & Safety is paramount – you will learn the H&S aspects of workshop equipment and contribute to Risk Assessments

• Assist with COSHH documentation and controls

Key skills and qualifications:

Please note, we are unable to offer apprenticeships to degree holders.

• A minimum of GCSE a C / level 4 grade or equivalent in math’s and English

• Can commute with ease to the Luton office

• Business level English written and spoken language skills

• Full and permanent right to work in the UK

• A passion to pursue a career within the engineering and prototype industry, which requires a questioning mind and a hands-on approach
