This individual will lead a small, high-performing engineering team in designing, building, and maintaining secure, scalable, and intelligent software solutions that directly advance the organization’s cybersecurity mission and operational efficiency objectives.

Operating at the intersection of software engineering, artificial intelligence, and cloud infrastructure, this director will drive the adoption of modern development practices which include AI-assisted coding to include agentic agents, Dev Sec Ops, and cloud-native architecture while fostering a culture of security, quality, and continuous innovation. The role requires deep technical expertise, executive communication skills, and a demonstrated ability to translate complex engineering concepts into strategic business value.

This leader works directly with the cybersecurity organization, including cybersecurity architects and engineers, product security, and risk management teams to ensure that every solution delivered is technically excellent, governance-aligned, and purpose-built to drive efficiency gains and innovation outcomes across the cyber organization.

Key responsibilities

Team Leadership & Talent Development:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a small team of software engineers, establishing a high-performance, comprehensive engineering culture.
  • Define and execute a talent development strategy, including skills roadmaps, performance coaching, and retention of top software engineering talent.
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration between engineering, cybersecurity, cloud architecture, and data teams to ensure cohesive solution delivery.

Secure Software Development:

  • Champion and enforce secure software development practices aligned with modern cybersecurity standards, including OWASP guidelines, secure coding principles, and vulnerability management.
  • Provide architectural guidance ensuring that security is embedded throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Lead code reviews, architectural assessments, and partner with cyber engineers for threat modeling exercises to proactively identify and mitigate risk.

AI Integration & Workflow Automation:

  • Oversee planning and execution of software projects leveraging AI for workflow optimization, automation, and operational efficiency.
  • Evaluate and integrate emerging AI technologies and frameworks into the organization’s engineering stack to drive measurable productivity and quality improvements.
  • Stay current with advancements in generative AI, LLM-based tooling, and AI-assisted development to inform the organization’s technical strategy.

Development Operations & Code Delivery:

  • Manage GitHub repositories, utilize GitHub Copilot IDP integration, and own a cyber centric CI/CD pipeline designed for efficient, reliable, and auditable code delivery.
  • Establish and uphold engineering standards for code quality, branch management, release governance, and deployment automation.
  • Drive adoption of infrastructure-as-code practices to increase deployment consistency and reduce operational risk.
  • Own the operational health of applications and services built by the team, ensuring solutions are instrumented for observability, monitoring, and alerting to support reliability, performance, and rapid incident response.

Cloud Architecture & Scalability:

  • Embed a cloud-first philosophy into all software development practices, ensuring solutions are architected to maximize the capabilities of cloud platforms while remaining compatible with on-premises environments where required.
  • Establish and enforce cloud development best practices across the team, including the use of managed services, serverless architectures, containerization, and API-first design to drive scalability and operational efficiency.
  • Champion a cloud-first architecture mindset, ensuring that all development environments, APIs, and integrations are designed natively for the cloud and adhere to enterprise security and compliance requirements.

SDLC Governance & Continuous Improvement:

  • Own the end-to-end software development lifecycle, establishing processes that ensure quality, compliance, auditability, and continuous improvement.
  • Define and track engineering KPIs, including delivery velocity, defect rates, deployment frequency, and security posture metrics.
  • Facilitate Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and retrospectives to maintain team alignment and delivery cadence.

We Value

  • Hands-on cloud platform experience with Azure (preferred); equivalent experience with AWS or GCP
  • Strong understanding of AI concepts and hands-on experience integrating AI-driven capabilities into enterprise software products
  • Experience with GitHub Copilot or similar AI-assisted development tooling
  • Security-related certifications such as CISSP, CSSLP, CEH, or equivalent demonstrating a commitment to secure development and cybersecurity best practices

QUALIFICATIONSYou Must Have

  • 17+ years of progressive software engineering experience, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership or director-level role managing engineering teams
  • Deep knowledge of SDLC principles, Agile/Scrum frameworks, and modern engineering best practices
  • Proven expertise in secure development methodologies, Dev Sec Ops practices, and cybersecurity-aligned software engineering standards
  • Demonstrated experience with GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, and code automation workflows at enterprise scale
  • Excellent executive communication, stakeholder management, and cross-functional collaboration skills

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and hands-on engineering experience demonstrating the same depth of technical competency.
