This is a key R&D role where you will make a significant contribution to the development of innovations for Honeywell’s flagship industrial automation system for customers worldwide. You’ll apply your strong engineering skills, knowledge of process control, advanced process control, interest and aptitude in AI technologies, as well your domain experience in industrial sectors served by Honeywell such as oil and gas, power, renewables, chemicals, pharma, and mining metals and minerals. Working with the Sydney Honeywell R&D centre, you’ll work on stimulating R&D projects as part of the Honeywell global industrial automation engineering community to grow your career.

Key Responsibilities:

• Research, design, and development of a new generation of software-based industrial automation system using advanced technologies, including AI
• Work closely with the systems architecture, user experience design, and other functional teams to conceive and develop new innovations
• Play a hands-on role in delivery of new product introductions, working closely with the R&D team and customers. Tasks include a range of activities across the full software development lifecycle.
• Actively participate in technical strategic planning
• Provide responsive customer support for software solutions developed

Key Experience & Capabilities:

• At least 5 years industry experience, with domain expertise in industrial sectors such as oil and gas, power, renewables, chemicals, pharma, or mining metals and minerals
• Experience in process control and advanced process control (APC), real-time optimization, performance monitoring, first principles modelling & distributed control systems
• Hands-on experience in software design and development

Professional Skills / Knowledge

Essential

• Programming languages: C/C++, C#, Python

Highly Valued

• Programming languages: JSON, HTML5, CSS, JavaScript
• SQL Server or similar database technologies
• Experience with Agile development, TDD, CI/CD, unit testing
• Experience with AI-assisted software development
• Experience creating performant and scalable software designs
• Understanding of software-based security concepts
• Understanding of system architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices, particularly for high performance mission critical Industrial Control System, DCS or SCADA systems
• Debugging and troubleshooting skills
• Knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems, and their deployment
