Honeywell has a century of expertise in energy innovation and technology across numerous sectors including natural gas, petrochemicals, and emerging energy technologies like renewable fuels, hydrogen, carbon capture and energy storage. Energy markets are highly impacted by political; policy and economic trends and successful businesses must engage with governments and other organizations to ensure optimal policy and regulatory environments for growth and success of their technologies. To ensure that we achieve our growth objectives, the company is currently recruiting for a new and strategically important role for Government Relations (GR) Senior Director, US Energy Policy and Funding, who will be accountable for developing, coordinating and driving policy advocacy and government-related project pursuits in the US. The role will be responsible for supporting business growth by providing strong leadership and vision in developing policy and government funding objectives in partnership with business and government relations leaders, and execution of those objectives.

The successful candidate will partner with business leaders and GR colleagues to elevate Honeywell’s profile among senior level stakeholders, effectively identify and shape policy outcomes to support profitable growth, and help secure government funding for customers in a complex, fast paced, highly competitive environment while enabling a passionate team committed to success. As a change agent, the Senior Director, Govern will work closely with a multi-functional team to inject a sense of urgency, innovation, drive execution and be a strong partner in advocacy and business development activities.

The new incumbent will have previous experience in achieving significant policy outcomes that enable business growth in US energy markets for a major multinational company, building relationships with key government officials in targeted markets and coordinating with a team of business and government relations professional to secure growth objectives. The new incumbent will have a deep understanding of energy policy across sectors, US government structures, and possess a wide network among a range of key stakeholders. Due to Honeywell’s corporate structure and reporting model, he/she will demonstrate a high level of maturity and ability to achieve results through influence and relationship management rather than direct authority.

Measure of Success:

  • Secure measurable policy outcomes in key energy markets that will enable significant business growth.

  • Drive differentiated positioning for Honeywell among government officials, NGOs, industry, and customers.

  • Build a visionary and exciting strategic US engagement and advocacy plan, securing buy-in from key business leaders, GR team members and external stakeholders.

  • Continuously assess and work with business and functional leaders to upgrade strategy and execution.

  • Collaborate effectively and efficiently with the Washington and regionally based Government Relations team to leverage expertise and resources.

  • Display impeccable integrity and uphold the reputation of Honeywell.

Experience and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree is a must; a post-graduate degree is preferable.

  • Success as a government relations leader for a major company or US government institution with a proven record of results; deep experience in the global energy policy space is highly valued.

  • Demonstrated record of leadership. He/she must be a well-rounded leader who earns respect from peers, and a mature and flexible style to be able to influence and coach when appropriate but also be willing and able to take a much more direct approach when required.

  • A global thinker who possesses the ability to critically assess alternative opportunities and exercise proper business judgment from an owner’s perspective.

  • An action-oriented mindset driven to produce results.

  • Must have strong communication skills and executive presence, as the position will require extensive communication with senior Honeywell executives, engagement with top level government officials and industry executives, and serve as an external thought leader.

  • Proven track record of effective multi-culture management skills and ability to manage senior level relationships across regions (US and other markets) including key members of the business community and government leaders on international, national, state, and local levels.

SALARY

The annual base salary range for this position is $250,000 - $300,000. Please note that this salary information serves as a general guideline. POSTING TIMELINE

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive growth by creating and executing a vision and strategy across key markets globally in coordination with US and outside US regional GR leads and corporate/business leaders on desired policy and business outcomes across all energy businesses including oil and gas, LNG, sustainable fuels, hydrogen, carbon capture, utilities and energy storage.

  • Develop and deliver key priority indicators (KPIs) for advocacy and government funding, working closely with the other leaders, with a particular focus on growth for the above listed technologies.

  • Serve as a thought leader to enable energy advocacy priorities and evangelize our vision for the future of energy with multiple constituents particularly government and related stakeholders. He/she is expected to continuously enhance the company’s image and reputation and therefore its ability to influence policy makers.

  • Maintain stewardship of Honeywell’s US energy policy vision in partnership with GR peers, corporate senior management and business leaders.

  • Directly and as a partner to US and global regional GR teams develop, protect, and nurture government, industry, NGO and customer relationships in the US market to drive desired outcomes for Honeywell’s energy technology portfolio.

  • Identify and coordinate resources within and outside the company needed to support strategic policy and commercial developments.

  • Drive teamwork initiatives and “best practice” values and vision across the GR organization. He/she must be a strong team builder and leader who can coordinate and influence peers.
