About Helion
We are a fusion power company based in Everett, WA, with the mission to build the world's first fusion power plant, enabling a future with unlimited clean electricity. Our vision is a world with clean, reliable, and affordable energy for everyone.
Since Helion's founding in 2013, we have raised over $1 billion from long-time investors such as Sam Altman, Mithril, and Capricorn Investment Group as well as new investors Soft Bank and Lightspeed to propel us forward. Our last prototype, Trenta, completed 10,000 high-power pulses and reached plasma temperatures of 100 million degrees Celsius (9 keV). We are now operating Polaris, our next prototype on the path to the world's first fusion power plant.
This is a pivotal time to join Helion. You will tackle real-world challenges with a team that prizes urgency, rigor, ownership, and a commitment to delivering hard truths – values essential to achieving what no one has before. Together, we will change the future of energy, because the world can't wait.
What You Will Be Doing:
As a Senior Electrical Simulation Engineer focused on simulation, you will develop and validate detailed circuit and system models that guide design decisions and ensure the safe, stable operation of our fusion systems. You will create plant-level models to assess performance, evaluate subsystem interactions, and verify compliance with applicable standards and regulations. You will collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to model and simulate the pulsed power devices, circuits, and physics that enable fusion machine operation. By combining hands-on lab work with advanced simulation methods, you'll accelerate our ability to represent complex electrical systems with confidence, ensuring the reliability of the fusion machine at scale. This is an onsite role that reports directly to Lead Electrical Engineer at our Everett, WA office.
You Will:
-
Lead development and validation of electrical simulation models at the circuit and systems levels
-
Integrate electrical models with mechanical, thermal, and controls simulations to evaluate multidisciplinary interactions and optimize overall system performance
-
Develop automation scripts to enable repeatable, automated execution of simulation activities
-
Work with hardware, firmware, and software engineers to support bring-up, integration and root-cause analysis
-
Evaluate and deploy new simulation tools and processes improve model fidelity, efficiency, and scalability
-
Mentor and guide junior engineers in simulation techniques, model validation, and best practices
Required Skills:
-
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, or related field
-
8+ years of experience creating system-level simulations in environments such as Simulink to capture dynamic behavior, fault response and control interactions
-
Experience with controls, power electronics, and energy delivery systems
-
Experience developing and validating circuit-level electrical models using tools such as SPICE, Simetrix/Simplis, PLECS, or PSIM
-
Experience with leading the design and execution of test campaigns to validate and refine simulation models through experimental measurement
-
Experience with Python, MATLAB, or similar scripting languages for automation, data analysis, report generation, and workflow integration
-
Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with attention to detail in model validation and documentation
-
Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary engineering teams
Benefits:
Our total compensation package includes benefits, including but not limited to:
- Medical, Dental, and Vision plans for employees and their families
- 31 Days of PTO (21 vacation days and 10 sick days)
- 10 Paid holidays, plus company-wide winter break
