The KMBC 9 / KCWE 29 Internship Program is a paid, rigorous and highly competitive hands-on experience that provides individuals with the opportunity to learn about the operations of a broadcast television station. An intern in the KMBC KCWE Creative Services department can expect to gain hands-on experience in the marketing of each television station. They will learn about the promotion production process—including scripting, shooting, editing, and graphics creation. They will learn about strategies used to grow the KMBC 9 News brand as well as KCWE entertainment brands.
BRAND PROMISE PROMOTION
Learn how market research is used to determine how to best showcase our stations.
Learn how we collaborate as a team to brainstorm new ideas for our messaging.
Learn all the tools we use to shoot best-in-class video in our studio and in the field.
Learn how we approach editing for news and entertainment promotion.
COMMUNITY OUTREACH PROMOTION
Learn the importance of showcasing our stations’ efforts to serve and improve our community.
Learn the process of producing and trafficking Public Service Announcements.
Learn the methods beyond phone and television screens we use to get credit for our presence in the community.
SCHEDULING PROMOTION
Learn the tools we use to ensure effective promotion is seen by our target audiences.
Learn how we use our own television product and outside media sources like cable, social, and radio to promote our products.
Learn how we usher our television audiences to our digital products, and vice versa.
DAILY TOPICAL PROMOTION
Learn the fundamentals of crafting effective coverage promises for daily newscasts.
Learn best practices for communicating with producers, reporters, and meteorologists; ensuring topical promotion reflects the latest, most compelling developments of each story.
Learn the decision-making process behind which entertainment brands we choose to support with topical promotion.
An internship at KMBC KCWE Creative Services will provide a great foundation for those interested in pursuing a career in marketing, media production, or broadcasting.
Your first day at the station is set aside for orientation which Must be attended. Plan to work three days a week, eight hours each shift with varying schedules. During your internship you should always check in with your assigned advisor upon entering the building.
Securing housing and transportation during the internship are the responsibility of the intern. KMBC 9 / KCWE 29 cannot offer support in this area.
