Be Part of What’s Next

Help architect the data foundation that powers the future of advertising at Hearst Magazines. This is a high-impact engineering leadership role at the center of revenue, operations, and technology—building the interoperable systems that drive automation, accuracy, and insight across our advertising ecosystem.

About Hearst Magazines (Why Us?)

Hearst Magazines’ portfolio of more than 30 iconic brands in the U.S.—including Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Esquire, Good Housekeeping, Harper’s BAZAAR, and Popular Mechanics — inspires, entertains, and builds new and bold experiences for an engaged and growing audience across digital, video, social and print, reaching nearly 130 million readers and site visitors each month. With sophisticated content creation, cutting-edge technology, and industry-leading data capabilities, we make media and products that move people across all platforms. We are a global media company that publishes nearly 200 magazine editions and 175 websites around the world—and together, we are shaping what’s next.

Key Responsibilities (What You Are Doing)

  • Lead the architecture and delivery of a centralized, interoperable data foundation across Salesforce (CRM), Ad Point (OMS), Google Ad Manager (GAM), Meta, and other media platforms.
  • Design and govern APIs and services that enable seamless interoperability, campaign workflows, pacing, status tracking, delivery reporting, and discrepancy management.
  • Architect and oversee scalable data pipelines on Google Cloud into Big Query (batch and near-real-time), ensuring monitoring, lineage, auditability, and SLA adherence.
  • Build and maintain a finance-grade reporting layer powering Looker and Domo; standardize and govern metric definitions (booked, delivered, billed, pacing, forecast, yield).
  • Drive automation of data ingestion, transformation, reconciliation, and quality controls to reduce manual processes and improve root-cause analysis.
  • Establish consistent identifiers, mapping rules, and entity resolution frameworks across systems to enable a single source of truth.
  • Lead and mentor a small NYC-based engineering team while coordinating sprint execution with outsourced development partners.
  • Partner closely with Revenue Operations, Finance, Marketing, and Product to prioritize roadmaps and deliver scalable, business-aligned solutions—including exploring AI/ML applications for anomaly detection, forecasting, deduplication, and operational automation.

Qualifications (What We’re Looking For)

  • Deep experience (12+ years) in data architecture and/or data engineering, including hands-on work within ad tech or publisher revenue workflows.
  • Proven success integrating Salesforce, OMS platforms (Ad Point or similar), and Google Ad Manager to enable operational interoperability and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of ad operations data structures and processes (campaign hierarchies, trafficking, delivery, pacing, discrepancies).
  • Advanced expertise building data products on Google Cloud, with Big Query as a core warehouse solution.
  • Strong SQL, canonical and dimensional data modeling skills, and a commitment to auditability and finance-grade accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams and deliver results using a combination of in-house and outsourced engineering resources.
  • Clear communicator who can translate complex technical concepts into business-aligned solutions; skilled in documentation including data contracts, runbooks, and architecture diagrams.
  • Experience with Looker modeling/semantic layers and/or Domo governance preferred.
  • Familiarity with GAM reporting APIs, log-level data, MDM/entity resolution, or applied AI/ML for automation and forecasting is a plus.
  • Ability to work in-office in New York City 4 days per week.

Benefits (What We Offer)
