Job Summary

IT Project Management – Finance Expert Role Overview

The IT Project Management – Finance Expert is responsible for driving financial governance, planning, and performance management across IT programs and portfolios. The role combines deep financial expertise with strong project management capabilities to ensure transparency, compliance, and value realization across complex IT initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities Financial Governance & Control

  • Own and drive end-to-end financial management across IT projects and programs (budgeting, forecasting, actuals tracking, variance analysis)

  • Ensure adherence to financial governance standards, policies, and compliance requirements

  • Manage financial lifecycle aspects including capitalization, depreciation, accruals, cost allocation, and recharging models

  • Establish and monitor financial KPIs to measure project and portfolio performance

Project & Portfolio Financial Management

  • Partner with Project/Program Managers to plan, track, and optimize budget utilization

  • Lead financial planning cycles including annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and long-range planning

  • Conduct financial scenario analysis and provide strategic insights for decision-making

  • Identify financial risks and opportunities and drive corrective actions

Reporting & Insights

  • Develop and deliver executive-level financial reports and dashboards (Power BI, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Consolidate and analyze financial and project data across multiple systems (e.g., SAP, Clarity, JIRA)

  • Translate complex financial data into concise insights and actionable recommendations for leadership

  • Ensure consistency and accuracy in management reporting across portfolios

Stakeholder Management & Advisory

  • Act as a trusted financial advisor to senior stakeholders including IT leadership and business partners

  • Drive alignment between finance, IT, and business organizations

  • Facilitate governance forums, steering committees, and financial reviews

  • Provide expert guidance on financial best practices, tools, and methodologies

Process Optimization & Tooling

  • Enhance and standardize financial processes within IT project management

  • Drive automation and efficiency improvements using tools like SAP, Clarity, Power BI, and Power Query

  • Support implementation and optimization of financial/project management tools and systems

  • Promote adoption of best-in-class PMO and financial management practices

Methodologies & Delivery Support

  • Support financial management in both Agile and Waterfall delivery environments

  • Align financial tracking with Agile constructs (e.g., epics, sprints, capacity planning)

  • Ensure financial transparency in hybrid delivery models

Skill Requirements

Required Skills & Qualifications Experience

  • 13+ years of experience in IT finance, project financial management, or PMO finance roles

  • Proven experience managing finances in complex IT programs or large-scale portfolios

  • Strong background in multinational and cross-functional environments

  • Demonstrated experience working with senior stakeholders and leadership teams

Financial Expertise

  • Deep understanding of IT financials (Cap Ex/Op Ex, run vs. change, capitalization, depreciation, accruals, cost allocation)

  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills

  • Experience in financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes

Tools & Systems

  • Advanced proficiency in:

SAP (FI/CO or equivalent financial modules)

  • Clarity (or similar PPM tools)

  • Microsoft Excel (advanced analytics, Power Query, pivot tables)

  • Power BI (dashboarding and visualization)

  • PowerPoint (executive reporting)

  • Good working knowledge of JIRA, Confluence, Share Point Project & Delivery Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of IT project management frameworks

  • Experience working in both Agile and Waterfall environments

  • Familiarity with PMO standards, governance frameworks, and reporting structures

Soft Skills

  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills

  • Ability to translate financial data into strategic insights

  • High attention to detail and analytical mindset

  • Proactive, solution-oriented, and adaptable to fast-paced environments

  • Strong coordination and leadership capabilities
