Permanent, full time, 37.5 hours per week
Flexible shift patterns between Monday and Sunday, 7.30am – 9pm

We’re looking for a Theatre Porter to join our Theatres team at The Harborne Hospital. Opened in January 2024, The Harborne Hospital is a £100 million, purpose‑built, 50‑bed, multi‑speciality hospital delivering complex care across cardiology, cancer services and advanced surgery. Located on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham campus, we work in close partnership with University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Trust, supporting full clinical pathways across a wide range of specialties. As a Theatre Porter within our theatres unit, you’ll play a vital role in the safe, smooth running of theatre services and in shaping the experience of every patient who comes through our doors. Working alongside clinical and non‑clinical colleagues, you’ll provide a high standard of support before, during and after surgery. From escorting patients and supporting transfers, to moving specialist equipment and preparing theatre spaces, your work will directly support theatre lists and help teams deliver safe, efficient care. You’ll be part of a close‑knit team in a new hospital setting, with access to structured training, clear processes and the opportunity to build your skills within theatres and the wider hospital.

- Support patient care and safety by escorting and transferring patients to and from theatres and wards
- Assist clinical teams with positioning patients and moving specialist equipment and materials
- Check, store and change medical gas cylinders in line with safety procedures
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HCA policies at all times
- Contribute to the smooth running of theatre lists through teamwork and proactive support
What you’ll bring:
- Previous porter experience within healthcare, ideally in a theatres environment
- Ability to safely lift and move heavy items as part of the role
- Good spoken English and a professional, courteous manner
- Knowledge of health and safety procedures
- A team‑focused approach with a strong commitment to patient care
