The Google Australia Sovereign Cloud team builds, delivers, and operates secure private cloud services. We aim to provide flexibility, reliability, and scalability for an end-to-end capability from the cloud to the edge to enable operation in environments. We deliver and operate these private cloud deployments for the most critical Australian Federal Government customers, helping scale, secure, and maintain the deployment whilst working closely with Google product teams to continually improve our technology.We are seeking an experienced Technical Solutions Consultant for a critical government private cloud program. In this role, you will be responsible for defining the overarching Architecture, while leading the design phase to translate those requirements into actionable engineering specifications for Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) air-gapped-based capabilities. You will bridge the gap between high-level mission objectives and detailed technical integration, ensuring every design decision aligns with the broader architectural framework and stringent government security mandates. You will lead the conceptual design phase and provide the high-level guidance required to ensure technical teams remain compliant with the overarching architectural framework.

Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end architecture and design for this government private cloud, from conceptualization and high-level design (HLD) to detailed low-level design (LLD), ensuring alignment with program objectives, business requirements, and technical standards.

• Translate government customer requirements, including performance, scalability, resilience, and particularly stringent security and compliance mandates (e.g., ISM, PSPF, and Essential Eight), into concrete, actionable architectural designs.

• Produce comprehensive and clear architectural documentation, including design specifications, diagrams, decision logs, and best practice guides, to support successful implementation, operation, and future evolution of the private cloud.

• Provide expert technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to engineering teams, ensuring designs are properly understood and implemented. Lead technical design reviews and enforce architectural standards.

• Coordinate on infrastructure design requirements, escalating to product teams as needed.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

• 7 years of experience designing and implementing cloud solutions, with a focus on private cloud environments.

• Experience designing, deploying, and managing enterprise solutions in particular those integrated with private cloud implementations.

• Experience managing technical teams in infrastructure and operational environments.

• Successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting level 2 Australian Government Security Clearance.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience implementing projects in a customer-focused, fast-changing environment.

• Experience designing for Information Security Registered Assessors Program (IRAP) accreditation.

• Experience in a consulting or lead architect role on large government projects.

• Understanding of practical application of government security frameworks and standards, including the Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM), Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF), and Essential Eight.

• Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools and principles to enable automated and consistent infrastructure deployment.

• Excellent problem-solving skills, with an ability to diagnose technical issues and design scalable, and secure solutions.
