About the job

Google accountants are a savvy bunch who handle the core accounting responsibilities at Google. You know your accounting principles and the full accounting process end to end. You'll advise on financial reports required by governmental regulations, and review, analyze, and interpret financial and budgetary reports. Every day is a new challenge, and you're continually looking for ways to help our team become more efficient and effective. A team player at heart, you collaborate with our global team, advocate best practices and pitch in where needed. You move fast while keeping your attention to detail, and you tap into your problem-solving skills to support business objectives.

You'll lead an accounting process from end-to-end. Other responsibilities include reconciling balance sheets and P&L accounts, and providing supplementary financial information for internal and external reports.

Our team performs the finance controllership function for the Platforms and Ecosystems Product Area (Android Ecosystem including Google Play and ChromeOS, Photos, G1 Subscription, etc.) for the APAC region. We are trusted advisors to the business and provide financial risk management support across new business models, product launches and geo expansions, commercial deals, go-to-market initiatives, accounting and finance operations, and compliance. We leverage our deep business and product knowledge and finance controllership expertise to enable business growth in the APAC region while ensuring financial accuracy and regulatory compliance.

The name Google came from "googol," a mathematical term for the number 1 followed by 100 zeros. And nobody at Google loves big numbers like the Finance team when providing in depth analysis on all manner of strategic decisions across Google products. From developing forward-thinking analysis to generating management reports to scaling our automated financial processes, the Finance organization is an important partner and advisor to the business.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership and accountability for accuracy, timeliness, effectiveness, and efficiency of APAC regional financial reporting and processes such as regulatory submission, tax, and audit related to controllership for your area.

  • Participate in cross-finance readiness for product initiatives, working through tax, legal, treasury, accounting, and operational implications, providing product and jurisdictional expertise.

  • Partner with key stakeholders to enable successful launch operationalization/implementation. Participate in system design and accounting testing as required.

  • Collaborate with global and regional cross-functional teams to lead execution of global business programs with an APAC focus. Identify opportunities for improvement of current processes and develop new approaches.

  • Act as the first point of contact and provide advisory support to the business on commercial agreements, ensuring timely agreement execution and compliance. Articulate risks to management, provide insights, and make recommendations to inform decision making.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 4 years of relevant experience in accounting, finance, or a related function with business partnership in a public accounting or large multinational company setting.

  • Experience with accounting principles, including US GAAP and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

Preferred qualifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Chartered Accountant (CA), or other professional accounting accreditation.

  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and experience with ERP systems such as SAP. Exceptional analytical skills and adept at data queries (i.e. SQL), reporting, presentation and visualisation.

  • Ability to grow in a demanding, change-oriented, fast-paced environment requiring a high degree of deadline-driven productivity.

  • Ability to work with cross-functional and international teams and to surface and resolve conflicts diplomatically.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills combined with impeccable business judgment and the ability to communicate effectively with executive management.
