Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

In this role, you will maintain and enhance the core software that runs on every server in Google's massive production fleet. You will be bringing the newest industry technologies and Google's custom silicon to life in the data centers. You will help to ensure the reliability and performance of servers, powering everything Google does. You will partner with teams across Google, as well as external vendors, to deliver the next generation of hardware solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, design, implement, and measure next generation reliable and distributed machine monitoring and management software. Design messaging layers, implement C/C++ libraries, write system daemons, and participate in end-to-end system design, analysis, and measurement.

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to plan and execute the engineering programs, including product development and productivity improvement.

  • Mentor the team by modeling standards, provide feedback, and implement practices to improve productivity.

  • Develop technical and product roadmaps and influence executive decisions. Define and implement the best practices for multiple teams.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 1 years of experience with software development in C++ or more programming languages.

  • Experience in systems engineering principles and processes.

  • Experience using Linux operating systems.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree or an advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

  • Experience with open source development or Open Compute Projects (OCP).

  • Experience in the baseboard management controller (BMC) (e.g., automated mainframe intelligence (AMI) BMC or OpenBMC) or unified extensible firmware interface (UEFI) basic input/output system (BIOS) development, machine management software development, or Linux kernel development.

  • Experience in Python and scripting languages (e.g., Shell).

  • Experience in software or hardware integration, system bring-up, and diagnostics.
