About the job

As a Reliability Engineer, you will play a key role in creating new consumer electronic products that meet a high bar for reliability and performance. You will work closely with the product management and design engineering teams to define standards, specify tests, and then supervise test execution and failure analysis. A broad engineering background and command of statistical methods will help to inform design of new products. Your strong interpersonal and communication skills will be key to ensuring adoption of your technical recommendations.

As a Calibration Engineer, you will be the critical link between raw quantum hardware and a reliable, production-ready system for our external users. In this high-impact role, you will sit at the intersection of quantum physics, software engineering, and systems architecture to transition our flagship superconducting quantum processors from the lab to the cloud.

Your primary mission will be to utilize the automated infrastructure necessary to bring up, calibrate, and characterize qubit devices to ensure our full quantum stack meets enterprise-grade reliability specifications. Ultimately, you will be responsible for testing and productionizing calibration techniques, pushing the boundaries of what our quantum hardware can achieve.

In this role, your impact will be driven by: testing the automation tools required to initialize and deploy our flagship quantum hardware to external users, evaluating system validation tools to rapidly identify, isolate, and resolve failures across the entire quantum computing stack, and stress-testing and hardening our calibration software to guarantee it meets the strict uptime and reliability demands of externally facing systems.

The full potential of quantum computing will be unlocked with a large-scale computer capable of complex, error-corrected computations. Google Quantum AI's mission is to build this computer and unlock solutions to classically intractable problems. Our roadmap is focused on advancing the capabilities of quantum computing and enabling meaningful applications.
