Modern applications are architected as distributed collections of microservices, with each collection of microservices owned by specific teams to perform a discrete business function. A service mesh is a dedicated infrastructure layer allowing you to transparently add capabilities like observability, traffic management, and security, without adding them to your own code. Google and the CSM team developed Istio - the world's most popular service mesh with over 70% market share - as well as own and operate a hosted and fully managed version for GCP customers. Our mission is to create many differentiating features to allow customers to operate their microservices regardless of the platform they run on or the type of compute infrastructure they need - all in a secure, compliant, and scalable way!

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $197,000-$291,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership on high-impact projects.

• Influence and coach a distributed team of engineers.

• Facilitate alignment and clarity across teams on goals, outcomes, and timelines.

• Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance large-scale software solutions.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.

• 8 years of experience programming in C++.

Preferred qualifications

• Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

• 8 years of experience with data structures/algorithms.

• 3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.

• 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization involving cross-functional, or cross-business projects.
