About the job
In this role you will be responsible for leading the overall quality across several different Gemini Application features and for leading the technical direction for the entire team. You will be building new features in the Gemini product, focused on information seeking verticals like Search, Maps, Shopping and News. You’ll lead prototyping work of new Large Language Model (LLM) applications, guide design and implementation of evaluation metrics, collection of evaluation data and analysis of model responses, and conduct prompt engineering reviews with the team in order to ship high-quality features to our users. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $262,000-$365,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.

Responsibilities

Architect, design, and build high-quality software components while navigating ambiguity and adapting to shifting project requirements and directional changes.

Partner extensively with Product Managers, TPMs, and Technical Leads across various domains to prioritize, develop, and ship features at high organizational velocity.

Provide deep technical guidance and mentorship to engineering teams and actively investigate and resolve complex technical blockers to unblock project owners and elevate overall engineering standards.

Manage complex project priorities, uncertainties, context-switching, and tight deadlines to consistently deliver critical milestones.

Drive alignment and foster a collaborative engineering culture by cultivating strong stakeholder relationships, articulating the team’s goals to executive leadership, communicating seamlessly across global time zones, and cross-pollinating technical learnings across multiple projects.
Minimum qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
-
8 years of experience in software development.
-
5 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.

5 years of experience with design and architecture; and testing/launching software products.

3 years of experience developing, launching, and maintaining AI or Large Language Model (LLM) based products.
Preferred qualifications
-
Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.

8 years of experience applying data structures and algorithms to optimize large-scale distributed systems or ML infrastructure.

3 years of direct experience designing and debugging LLM-centric architectures, with a focus on infrastructure scaling and model quality optimization.

3 years of experience driving technical execution, managing shifting priorities, and navigating ambiguity within a complex organization.
