About the job

Commodity Managers work with Engineering teams to make sure Google has the supplies and equipment to put into production the innovative products coming from our Engineering teams. As a Commodity Manager, you use your wide industry knowledge and strategic supplier relationships to optimize our total cost of ownership for our global -- and growing -- infrastructure. The scale at which Google operates means that savings on just one piece of hardware can have a huge impact on Google's bottom line.

Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute global sourcing strategies for custom silicon (ML, networking, CPU) to align with long-term business objectives.

  • Lead the end-to-end Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (ASIC) lifecycle, provide critical input from architecture definition through NPI ramp and eventual EOL.

  • Identify and qualify global suppliers while managing high-level relationships to ensure favorable business terms and contract compliance.

  • Drive cost-reduction initiatives using expert-level modeling while monitoring market trends across wafer fab, packaging, and IP landscapes.

  • Partner with Engineering, Finance, and Quality teams to mitigate supply chain risks and ensure alignment on technical requirements.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a technical or engineering field or equivalent practical experience.

  • 4 years of experience in procurement and supply chain management.

  • Experience in custom silicon and ASIC category, or commodity management, contract negotiation and supplier development.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or Business Administration.

  • 5 years of experience in strategic sourcing specifically focused on the custom silicon and semiconductor manufacturing landscape.

  • Understanding of silicon processes, advanced packaging technologies, IP licensing, and sub-tier supplier capabilities.
