About the job

Be part of a team that pushes boundaries, developing custom silicon solutions that power the future of Google's direct-to-consumer products. You'll contribute to the innovation behind products loved by millions worldwide. Your expertise will shape the next generation of hardware experiences, delivering unparalleled performance, efficiency, and integration.The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first-party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Develop system-level power models for battery life projection and analysis across device and subsystem states.

  • Define, develop, or utilize tools and methods for detailed power analysis of subsystems in order to enable use-case level analysis.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional hardware, software, and systems teams to perform power/performance trade-off analysis and optimizations for use-cases.

  • Propose and drive implementation of power optimization features across hardware and software.

  • Participate in power and performance benchmarking of hardware (e.g., System on a chip (SoC), Central Processing Unit (CPU), Graphics Processing Unit (GPU), Power Management Integrated Circuits (PMICs), etc), software (e.g., firmware, kernel, Android/iOS, and more), and applications (e.g., multimedia, Generative AI, etc) across internal and external platforms.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP, etc.), or equivalent practical experience.

  • 1 year of experience in electrical and computer engineering principals like electronics systems power consumption, power delivery, CPU/GPU operational concepts etc.

  • Experience in programming using Python, SQL or similar languages.

Preferred qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field (e.g., Optics, Sensors, Audio/DSP).

  • 2 years of experience in design, validation or power modeling and optimization of battery powered devices.

  • Experience with power measurement tools such as monsoon, digital multimeter.

  • Experience with Android tools like adb, Systrace, Git.

  • Knowledge of mobile devices including hardware and software with experience in mobile phone hardware subsystems including applications processor, cellular modem, graphics, multimedia, display, memory, Wireless-Fidelity (Wi-Fi).

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
