The Thermal Manufacturing Engineering team delivers cooling solutions for Google Cloud responsible for serving all of Google's functions and customers. Be part of a team that pushes boundaries, developing custom cooling solutions for the future of Google's Cloud computing and Machine Learning.
As an Engineering Manager for thermal products, you will lead a team working on products representing cooling solutions for all of Google's compute hardware, including the largest liquid cooled compute fleet in the world serving all of Google's internal and external Cloud customers. Using a deep understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, brazing, stamping, assembly, and skiving, you will enable product design and development for next generation thermal solutions at scale. With a background in industrial engineering, you will not only help guide with the qualification of new processes and suppliers but you will also lead a team to optimize production processes, lines, and vendors to help build better supply chains. With an understanding of design methods, tools, and requirements, you will lead team efforts to provide Design for Excellence (DFx) feedback, tolerance stack analysis, and thermal design considerations to enable manufacturing, automation, and scalability.
The US base salary range for this full-time position is $165,000-$245,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities
-
Lead a team of engineers responsible for developing manufacturing strategy, performing DFx, and driving implementation of manufacturing solutions for thermal assemblies.

Define the technical strategy and architecture for scalability and influence the supply chain selection for next generation hardware to support Google Cloud and Machine Learning.

Develop the mid-term technical goals within the scope of the team while evolving the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs.

Provide technical leadership via engineering expertise in supplier selection, qualification, process and cost optimization, failure analysis and recovery, supplier scaling, and supplier management through new product lifecycle.

Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing processes and product designs. Identify process, tooling, and automation opportunities to not only support high volume manufacturing but also to deliver increased product quality, reduced cost, and increased process repeatability.
Minimum qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Process, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent practical experience.

10 years of experience with product development for mechanical assemblies.

3 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role.
Preferred qualifications
-
Master's degree or PhD in Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, Materials, or a related engineering field.

10 years of relevant process, design, or product development experience for mechanical assemblies.
-
Experience with machining, welding, brazing, soldering, sintering, stamping, skiving, assembly, die casting, injection molding, leak detection, test design and product testing, quality control, equipment and fixture design.

Experience in design, manufacturing, quality, or product engineering for hardware technology and systems.

Ability to resolve conflicts cross-functionally with internal/external partners.

Excellent problem-solving and organizational skills, and attention to detail, with the ability to deliver presentations to executive management.
