Google's infrastructure needs go far beyond server computers. As Google's products and services scale the globe, the Strategic Negotiation team works behind the scenes to secure infrastructure for Google's future -- everything from underwater cables to physical data center space. As a Strategic Negotiator, you combine your deep market knowledge of a given sector with tech industry savvy to negotiate cost-effective solutions to support Google's infrastructure growth. You'll work with specific project teams on negotiating deals, managing vendor and partner relationships and presenting deal recommendations to our Tech leadership. Your successful negotiations have the potential to save Google millions of dollars in operating costs and impact every part of the business.
As a Senior Technical Lead, you will support Google’s activities across the Asia-Pacific region to ensure cost-effective power supplies, enable data center growth, and progress on our carbon-free energy goals.
You will help drive Google’s data center expansion by helping the team overcome and manage key technical constraints to secure data center capacity and mitigate operational risks. This includes providing technical advice, managing the third-party studies, providing feedback to key stakeholders and improving the technical capacity within the team. Working with cross-functional teams, you will act as a key technical resource for technical aspects including engagement with utilities, grid operators and developers to secure capacity and supply to meet the requirements.

Responsibilities

Lead Google’s work on evaluating technical considerations for clean energy opportunities including transmission and distribution, generation technologies and integration including managing third due diligence and being the point-of-contact within the regional team for technical matters.

Lead technical discussions and build relationships with regulators, utilities, and grid operators to unlock key constraints for Google’s energy team and manage risks.

Help drive Google’s regional data center expansion through technical inputs into strategy definition and implementation for the power and energy projects.

Improve the technical understanding of Google’s cross-functional teams in issues related to transmission, distribution, demand shifting and supply/demand integration.

Work with the Clean Energy and Power team to help design and implement the electricity supply solutions and strategies to progress Google's carbon-free energy goals with public and private sector parties.
Minimum qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
-
10 years of experience in power transmission and distribution, and integration of multiple energy sources.

Experience with the technical side of energy transaction structuring and execution in Asia-Pacific (APAC) power markets (e.g., wholesale and retail), renewable energy technologies, or infrastructure project management.

Experience in energy infrastructure development, evaluation, acquisition, and site selection.
Preferred qualifications

Master's degree or PhD or equivalent practical experience.

Experience in transmission and distribution grid code requirements and digital infrastructure.

Experience in collaborating with relevant stakeholders to ensure timely energization or grid connection and managing any technical consultants or subcontractors to provide due diligence, design or build services.

Knowledge of Asia Pacific power generation, grid operations, regulations, and market structures.

Ability to think outside the box, propose technically creative solutions and work in ambiguous, collaborative, and fluid environments.

Excellent problem-solving, communication and project management skills.
