This team strives to bring leading foundation models to Model Garden (commercial or OSS) and establish Vertex AI as the best platform for inference, winning developers and enterprises. Expanded choice, highest possible performance, reliability, security and lowest possible costs are the key goals for the inference API business.
As a Group Product Manager for the Model Garden and third-party API business, you will be the primary architect of our third-party (3P) model strategy. You will lead the selection, integration, and commercialization of the world’s most significant AI models, ensuring our platform remains the premier destination for developers and enterprises. You will require a blend of deep technical understanding, strategic business development, and the ability to navigate complex cross-functional landscapes.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $227,000-$320,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

Lead the selection of proprietary and open-source models for Model Garden. Develop onboarding frameworks that balance technical performance, safety, and market demand. Proactively resolve technical, legal, and commercial roadblocks alongside cross-functional teams.

Design commercial models for third-party APIs and open-source offerings to ensure participant positioning. Define the platform’s GTM strategy and value proposition. Establish and track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), growth goals, and business health metrics for executive reporting.

Drive third-party API adoption by partnering with Sales and customers to refine product-market fit. Serve as the primary interface for model providers, fostering relationships with influential AI research organizations.

Mentor and elevate product management excellence by establishing best practices for model lifecycle management and platform integration.
Minimum qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

10 years of experience in product management or related technical roles.

5 years of experience taking technical products from conception to launch (e.g., ideation to execution, end-to-end, 0 to 1, etc.).

Experience developing AI related products, or within Generative AI or Large Language Models (LLM) domains.
Preferred qualifications
-
Experience in building complex financial models, pricing strategies, and negotiating multi-party commercial agreements.

Experience mentoring executive individual contributors and navigating large, cross-functional organizations (e.g., Legal, Finance, Research).

Experience scaling API-based businesses or cloud platforms.

Experience working directly with SOTA model providers.

Understanding of the Generative AI landscape, including LLM architectures, inference infrastructure, and the open-source AI ecosystem.

Ability to influence executive leadership on investment decisions.
