Senior Software Engineer, Health and Home Infrastructure

Develop and maintain high-QPS distributed systems, reliability and low-latency performance of high-QPS distributed systems.

Lead technical trade-off analyses to evaluate competing technologies, ensuring architectural decisions prioritize long-term scalability, system robustness, and operational efficiency.

Review code developed by other developers and provide feedback to ensure best practices (e.g., style guidelines, checking code in, accuracy, testability, and efficiency).

Deliver projects for Home Infrastructure. Ensure engineering quality in the team.

Work collaboratively with other teams in Home Infrastructure in different locations for delivering projects. Mentor junior team members in ramping up in the space.

The Health and Home (H&H) team, part of Google's Platforms and Devices, Product Area, aims to improve lives at scale across two key domains. Health empowering longer, healthier lives via Fitbit, the Personal Health Coach, and Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered, actionable insights. Home: Creating a home that cares for its inhabitants and the world. In this role, you will build the Google Home app and Nest ecosystem, using Gemini to enhance automation, security, and energy management. Health and Home (H&H) integrates Artificial Intelligence (AI) and hardware/software to deliver seamless experiences for user well-being. You will empower these experiences with scalable serving and offline infrastructure, coherent developer platforms, and trusted data services.
The Health Platforms and Devices team builds innovative products and services that help our users live longer, healthier lives. We bring together the best of Google technologies and AI, health behavior science, and user-centered design to help users organize the health and wellness data, get insight from it, and take action toward their health goals. We do this with a suite of apps, services, and health wearables. We aim to make consumer health more personal, proactive, and actionable.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

5 years of experience with software development in Java or C++.

3 years of experience testing, maintaining, and launching infrastructure, and with software design and architecture.

3 years of experience with developing large-scale distributed infrastructure, or experience with storage or distributed data processing.
