Google Distributed Cloud (GDC) is a fully managed software and hardware solution for data centers and edge locations to address regulatory, local data processing, survivability, and low-latency needs.

In this role, you will use your distributed systems and machine/operating system level experience, and is comfortable working with at-least one of the layers of the stack (hardware, OS, VM, container infrastructure), managing full lifecycle of system bootstrapping, upgrades, healing, security.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $166,000-$244,000 + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, test, deploy, secure, support the operating system and node related components of the GDC stack. Help evaluating various internal and external solutions, make recommendations.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to own the solution, gather requirements and convert them to designs. Improve the testing frameworks, improve overall testing and product quality.

  • Solve ambiguous problems including scoping, design, implementation and testing of GDC connected and GGS solutions.

  • Work cross-team with product managers, vendors, NPI, cluster teams and to make NodeOS easy and intuitive for its users.

  • Create high-quality deliverables, generalize common patterns to remove development and operations bottlenecks.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical fields.

  • 5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages (e.g., Go or C++).

  • Experience in Linux, Linux drivers, and operating systems (i.e., Linux distribution maintainer such as debian, gentoo, Initramfs, boot loaders, systemd, Linux boot, Linux security such as secure boot, Autovm scanning, CVE patching, Kernel rebase, Linux internals such as Linux Kernel config, Linux driver integration, GPU drivers).

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with GPU drivers, Kernel drivers, bare metal, virtual machines, Kernel, Linux Kernel internals, Kubernetes, backend, cloud, embedded systems, fleet management, service level objective, networking, Debian, Linux Gentoo, bootloaders, security, Linux internals, Linux Kernel, Linux drivers, infrastructure systems, and distributed systems.

  • Experience in building and maintaining Linux distributions (e.g., package management, update, kernel config management toolings).

  • Experience with networking (hardware configuration) for both VM and containers.
