About the job

Google's projects, like our users, span the globe and require managers to keep the big picture in focus while being able to dive into the unique engineering challenges we face daily. As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you lead complex, multi-disciplinary engineering projects using your engineering expertise. You plan requirements with internal customers and usher projects through the entire project lifecycle. This includes managing project schedules, identifying risks and clearly communicating them to project stakeholders. You're equally at home explaining your team's analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical trade-offs in product development with engineers.

Using your extensive technical and leadership expertise, you manage projects of various size and scope, identifying future opportunities, improving processes and driving the technical directions of your programs.

The Data Center Delivery and Engineering (DCDE) team is a collection of architectural design experts, mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, construction project managers, water/air gurus, data center services manager and project controls managers who plan, design, and construct the most efficient data centers in the world.

In this role, you will report into the Data Center Services (DCS) team and work with the various cross-functional teams that help design and deliver critical capacity using performance specifications. In addition, you will coordinate and align with numerous cross-functional teams focusing on design, construction and delivery.

Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

Responsibilities

  • Lead regional strategies for data center turn-up and Machine Learning (ML) deployments to accelerate time-to-market.
  • Manage the full life-cycle of data center projects from design through operational handover.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration and lead high-visibility escalation forums to resolve project blockers.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to supply chain, technical issues, and vendor performance.
  • Perform technical feasibility assessments for new hardware insertions, evaluating cost and infrastructure impacts. Author detailed risk assessments and justify exceptions to secure leadership approval for delivery strategies.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Network, Electrical, Industrial, Mechanical, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 8 years of experience with program management and development of new data center or critical facilities technology.

  • 8 years of experience in technical program management, with a focus on infrastructure, construction, data center projects, or legal aspects related to these fields.

Preferred qualifications

  • 10 years of experience managing multi-group/disciplinary construction projects with civil, architectural, electrical, mechanical, controls, security monitoring, fire safety, networking, server equipment, systems, and infrastructure.

  • 8 years of experience managing the full project life-cycle of data centers, from feasibility and planning through to commissioning, turn-up, and operational handover.

  • 5 years of experience as a Technical Program Manager in infrastructure projects, with a preference for data center construction and delivery.

  • Ability to travel 20-30% of the time across the EMEA region.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity, manage escalations, and drive technical projects to successful completion.
