Google is proud to boast a network that provides service to millions of Internet users around the world. The Network Engineering team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. As a member of the team, you have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You also ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components and responding to network connectivity issues. Google's complex network generates a constant stream of challenges which require you to continually be innovative with an evolving set of technologies. Keeping the network reliable ensures that our users stay connected with our suite of applications, products and services.
Responsibilities
-
Produce plans and designs to meet all network infrastructure and capacity plans for Google’s global production network in line with established standards and product Service Level Objective (SLO), establish and ensure proper blend of Cap Ex (Capital Expenditure) and Op Ex (Operating Expenditure).

Communicate with internal business partners to collect drivers and deadlines for delivering network capacity.

Incorporate newly NPI solutions into plans and designs. Ensure plan and design toolsets and business processes are ready for intaking NPIs.

Assist in setting up practices and policies in network designs and plans, and establish business practices that improve performance, reliability, and reduce risk.

Create automation tooling/scripts into network planning and design, contribute to the automation roadmap of all automatable tasks performed by the team, substantially reducing cycle time and improving quality and consistency.
Minimum qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

3 years of experience with network routing protocols or optical networks, design and troubleshooting, with network equipment providers.

Experience in one or more programming languages such as C++, Go, or Python.
Preferred qualifications
-
Experience with managing scaled capacity augment/migration projects in a computer networking environment.

Experience with network system design, network architecture and technology, and network infrastructure.

Experience with forecasting, planning and design tools, workflow automation tooling and improvement, automation scripts.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in an ambiguous and busy operations environment, and deliver outstanding results in a timely manner.

Outstanding organizational, multitasking, and prioritization skills, with an excellent attention to detail.

Strong problem solving, cost-benefit analysis, and data analysis skills.
