As a Software Engineer, Tools and Infrastructure, you will be at the heart of Google’s engineering process building software that empowers engineering teams to develop and deliver high quality products quickly. In this role, you will be part of an ambitious, high-impact project to transform critical infrastructure at Google using state-of-the-art techniques from operating systems, programming languages, and machine learning. The project is part of Google’s investment in innovative AI agents and systems for language translation to enhance the security, software engineering, and continuous improvement of its system software infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Explore emerging technologies and systems as an individual contributor in the research and development team.

• Participate in a team to carry out system design, analysis, and building of prototypes to demonstrate advantages and reveal challenges of these technologies for critical, large-scale applications.

• Create strategies that will help the team navigate a complex and challenging problem.

• Operate across Research and Engineering teams.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

• 2 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages, or 1 year of experience with an advanced degree.

• 1 year of experience with one or more of the following: speech/audio (e.g., technology duplicating and responding to the human voice), reinforcement learning (e.g., sequential decision making), ML infrastructure, or specialization in another ML field.

• 1 year of experience with ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, optimization, data processing, debugging).

Preferred qualifications

• Experience developing low-level systems software.

• Experience with the Rust programming language.

• Experience with generative AI and AI agents.

• Experience with BPF and the linux kernel.

• A record of published research papers at high-impact venues in systems or programming languages or AI/ML.
