**Job Description

The Position:

Reporting to the head of Public Affairs for Japan, this role is responsible for internal, corporate, and therapeutic communications including product and pipeline, patient relations and advocacy within Japan.  This position works closely with the cross-functional Japanese team and leadership team, in addition to Public Affairs colleagues at the global and country levels.

Job duties include:

  • Implementing communications and advocacy initiatives with supervisor support to demonstrate Gilead’s leadership and commitment to virology and inflammation in alignment with global direction and local market input

  • Communicating data and regulatory milestones that demonstrate Gilead’s continued contributions in virology and inflammation

  • Developing compelling materials to support external communications, including the development of materials, key messages, Q&A documents, press releases, presentations, videos, social media content, etc.

  • Developing/strengthening relationships with a wide variety of patient and community leaders, media and other influential organizations

  • Maintaining compliant, two-way communications with patient and community leaders to ensure patient needs are appropriately represented in our company programs

  • Coordinating with cross-functional colleagues to ensure alignment and collaboration in strategic priorities and messaging across different stakeholders

  • Responding to media requests and coordination of interviews with Gilead spokespeople and opinion leader spokespeople, as appropriate

  • Understanding the regulatory frameworks in Japan and compliantly managing internal and external approvals and interactions with reviewers

  • Planning and implementing internal and corporate communication initiatives

  • Managing agency partners

  • Knowledge, Experience and Skills

  • Over 10-year communication experiences in highly regulated and fast-paced industries

  • Demonstrated experience in media relations, issues management, knowledge of healthcare and industry media and reporting trends

  • Experience managing multiple projects (timelines, budgets, priorities) simultaneously on time and on budget

  • Experience in pharmaceutical industry or healthcare experience at agency side is preffered

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

  • Fluency in Japanese and English required

  • Typically requires a BA degree in communications, business or science-oriented field
