Own problems end-to-end from the first breakdown through root cause analysis, countermeasures, and permanent fixes, not just “getting it running.”

Lead and support controls projects such as equipment upgrades, model changes, line-rate and uptime improvements; project size and complexity scale with your experience.
-
Drive continuous improvement by monitoring throughput and data analytics to identify and resolve equipment bottlenecks.
-
Document clearly (End-of-Shift notes, logic comments, drawing updates, preventative maintenance work orders) so other shifts and teams understand what changed and why.
-
Partner with production and maintenance at the equipment, building trust that when you’re on a problem, it will get resolved and stay resolved.
-
Share knowledge and grow by mentoring and being mentored by other controls engineers and skilled trades as we move from firefighting to true problem solving.

-
Proven ability to program and troubleshoot Allen-Bradley PLCs and diagnose complex equipment issues
-
Experience supporting controls-related changes on the floor, for example new equipment installs, model launches, or major upgrades
-
Familiarity with VFDs, HMIs, and industrial electrical systems, including safety circuits and field devices
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple issues in a fast-paced environment
-
Ability and willingness to work rotating / off shifts and support overtime as needed
-
Rotating shift schedule (changes every 3 months); expect to work 2nd and 3rd shifts with every other Saturday off.
-
Clear written and verbal communication skills, including concise shift reports and effective collaboration with production, maintenance, and leadership
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
-
Experience in automotive assembly or other high-volume, highly automated manufacturing environments; GM experience a plus
-
Experience leading or owning controls-related projects (e.g., new equipment installations, model launches, major upgrades, or line-rate / uptime improvements) from concept through implementation
-
Experience with FANUC robotics (e.g., multi-robot cells, vision-guided motion, background logic, recovery routines)
-
Deep experience with vision systems (Cognex / Matrox / Keyence), including setting up inspections, tuning performance, and integrating results into PLCs
-
Demonstrated experience mentoring junior engineers or skilled trades on PLC/robot troubleshooting and problem-solving methods
How You’ll Succeed:
-
Take ownership by going beyond clearing faults – they hunt down root causes, implement countermeasures, and close the loop with the team.
-
Are fully engaged and productive by volunteering for impactful work, driving continuous improvement, and understanding the difference between being busy and being productive.
-
Show value outside our team through a good reputation – someone production trusts to solve problems quickly and implement countermeasures to prevent future occurrences.
-
Lead by example on safety, communication, and inclusion, helping create an environment where production and maintenance can do their best work
