About the role

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and in accordance with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), we have implemented a number of safety precautions at all of our locations to protect our employees. Position Overview Within General Mills, our manufacturing facilities are committed to achieving zero human and food safety incidents and it is every employee’s responsibility to fully support this vision. Forklift Operators are responsible for the handling of ingredients, materials, and finished product within the manufacturing facility. The General Mills-Wellston Plant operates up to 12 hours per day and 7 days per week. This opening will be either a 2nd shift or a 3rd shift position. Changes in volume and product can results in changes to work schedule and additional overtime. Qualified candidates must be willing to work any shift, including nights and weekends as needed. Warehouse Forklift Operator: Starts at $18.50 per hour, with merit increases up to $19.30 per hour Distribution Center Operator: Starts at $18.75 per hour, with merit increases up to $19.55 per hour Specific job placement will be determined based on skills and experience. Job duties may vary by placement. We offer a competitive wage and a reliable paycheck! There is a shift differential payment for those working on off shifts. Benefits: Start after completing a 90-day probationary period. Main Responsibilities In this role, you will: Follow all company safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment Be responsible for the storage of raw material, ingredients or finished product Select, prepare, and load product for outbound shipment per customer specifications Demonstrate a strong customer service mindset Stage and deliver raw materials to support production needs Unload inbound ingredients/packaging materials for production including bulk deliveries Perform all sanitation tasks for shipping and receiving areas Be responsible for executing all required HACCP/quality processes and documentation Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives in order to increase platform performance Diagnose and troubleshoot problems in equipment operation Assist in training new employees Attend meetings and trainings as required Perform additional related tasks as assigned Minimum Qualifications Must be 18 years of age or older Must have the ongoing right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship High School Diploma or GED Must be willing and able to drive a forklift and pass certification to operate Must have effective written and oral communication skills Proficiency in basic computer skills Must be able to lift, move, push, pull 50 lbs. on a regular basis, with or without reasonable accommodation Must be able to sit/stand on a forklift for sustained periods of time with or without reasonable accommodation Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time including standing, walking, climbing, bending, squatting, pushing, pulling, and twisting over surfaces Willing and able to work any shift schedule, including nights and weekends, daily overtime, or overtime outside of your regular scheduled hours as required (more than 40 hours per week) Willing and able to adhere to all safety standards and wear all necessary personal protective clothing and equipment, such as safety shoes, face masks, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat/bump cap, hair/beard net and gloves when required Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environmental working conditions Ability to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms Ability to work with allergens that might be present in a food environment Ability to work around industrial high-speed moving machinery Willing and able to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment Preferred Qualification 1+ years of experience in a material handling environment Demonstrated leadership ability Forklift certified COMPANY OVERVIEW We exist to make food the world loves.
